Album Notes
This limited-edition of 14 SHADES OF GREY includes a bonus DVD featuring a home-movie documentary of the band's history. This is a Hyper CD which contains regular audio tracks and also provides a link to the artist's website with the help of a web browser.Staind: Aaron Lewis (vocals); Mike Mushok (guitar); Johnny "Old School" April (bass); Jon Wysocki (drums).Personnel: Josh Abraham, Anthony Valcic (keyboards, programming); Tony Reyes (keyboards).Audio Mixer: Andy Wallace.Recording information: Henson Recording Studios, Hollywood, CA; NRG, North Hollywood, CA; Pulse Recordings, Los Angeles, CA; South Beach Studios, Miami Beach, FL.Photographer: Anthony Mandler. While many bands lumped under the nu-metal banner seem to rely on angry posturing and shock tactics to sell records, Staind has quietly and consistently topped the sales and radio charts with a stripped-down and emotionally direct approach devoid of gimmickry. On the group's third album 14 SHADES OF GREY, singer Aaron Lewis and crew deliver a distinctly organic-sounding, mature disc that still manages to rock like a wild beast.Powered by the pile-driving yet earthy rhythm section of bassist Johnny April and drummer Jon Wysocki, Staind stands head and shoulders above many of its contemporaries by mixing de-tuned thrash with an old-school rock & roll kick. There's a touch of bluesy Led Zeppelin mixed in with the angst, and the band's subtle sexiness serves to temper Lewis's darker melodic and lyrical instincts. Featuring songs that address everything from the joyous birth of the singer's daughter ("Zoe Jane") to the tragic death of Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley ("Layne"), 14 SHADES OF GREY is an unquestionably adult album created by a band at once deafeningly heavy and clearly more concerned with making art than scaring parents.

Staind is the best band in the world!!! One of my favorite albums I have it's a great mix of slow and hard songs with great lyrics as always from Aaron Lewis with great anger like in Yesturday to more soft songs such as Fill Me Up and Zoey Jane.

The Softer Side of Staind

Created: 18/11/05
This album is almost as good as their previous effort ("Break The Cycle"- read my review on that one), but it seems to lack some of the hard-hitting instrumentation that I grew to love on that CD. Now, this CD still has some harder songs, but they are farther and fewer in between in comparison. And not that the slow songs are bad, it's just that I was expecting something else. There are the obvious radio cuts yet again, and they are fairly indicative of the rest of the CD. I would say that if you are a fan of Staind from the radio, then this is a good CD to buy to start getting into them.

Great Album Awesome band

I like most of the songs on the album. Staind is awesome. I bought it so that I could have all of stainds cd's. The album cover could be a little better because you can barely read what it says on it.
