Product description

Product Information
If collecting rare coins is your hobby, then be a proud owner of the 1887 Morgan Dollar. Made up of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper, this Morgan Dollar is 38.1 mm in diameter and weighs 26.73 grams. Tracing its origins back to the Mint Act of 1873 and the Bland-Allison Act of 1878, this silver dollar has deep historical roots. Named after its designer, George T. Morgan, the 1887 Morgan Dollar is a part of the Morgan Dollar series, which was minted from 1878 to 1904, and then again in 1921. Interestingly, as a representation of liberty, this silver dollar depicts an American woman, presumably Miss Anna W. Williams, a school teacher from Philadelphia, instead of the usual Greek–style figure. With an amazing history surrounding it, owning this Morgan Dollar gives you the chance revisit the era!

THE 1887 MORGAN DOLLAR WAS A VERY HIGHLY MINTED YEAR. SOMEWHERE OVER 33 MILLION ALL MINTS INCLUDED. THE PHILADELPHIA MINT, HIGHEST FOR THAT YEAR, CAME WITH MANY OVERSTAMPED DATES, NAMELY 7 OVER 6. OFCOURSE NO ONE REALLY KNOWS THE COIN COUNT NOW WITH ALL THE MELTINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENDED IN YEARS PAST. THE 1887 IS A VERY AFFORDABLE COIN IN VERY HIGH MINT STATE CONDITIONS. FOR A BULLION BUYER THIS IS THE PERFECT COIN AS CIRCULATED COINS OF YHIS YEAR ARE VERY INEXPENSIVE. SOME SELL BELOW SPOT PRICE. AS FOR ME, ALL OF THE MORGANS ARE OF INTEREST. I HAVE BEGUN BUYING "VAM" COINS,THEY COME IN ALL CONDITIONS LOW TO HIGH. THE THING ABOUT HIGH MINTED YEARS, THEY WERE PUMPED OUT SO FAST, MANY ERRORS GET OUT IN CIRCULATION. SOME "VAMS" ARE ERRORS. YOU MUST USE A HIGH POWER JEWELLERS LOOP OR MICROSCOPE TO SEE SOME OF THE ERRORS THAT OCCUR DURING MINTING PROCESS. AS I EXAMINE THESE COINS, I THIK ABOUT WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK IT COULD HAVE BEEN STAMPED. THESE OLD COINS WERE MINTED VERY DIFFERENTLY THAN TODAYS METHOD. IN 1887 THE COST WAS FAR LESS TO FIX A COIN THAT HAD A ERROR, THOSE ARE MY MOST EXCITING FINDS !...............heycar.........................

I bought one coin to trade and the other coin to be part of my collection. After immediately seeing the CLEANED CONDITION, I will now use one to trade and one for jewelry or other purposes. I was surprised to find one of the two coins with cleaning polish residue around the left and top front edges of the coin. The coin does show a little light discoloration in these areas on the coin photo. I would have expected this condition to have be noticed and stated in the description. Out of the last 30 Morgan Dollars purchased, this is the first cleaned one I have received.

very nice coin good price I will keep this coin as the silver price continues to go up, the 1887 Morgan silver dollar is not a rare date. I will hold on to all silver coins that are not rare dates, until the price of silver go up.

1887 morgan dollar is a very desireable collectors coin that will always have a minimum value of the price of silver, so what ever a oz of silver is worth it is right below that value, of course certain series of this coin are more valuable, so check a updated coin reference guide and shop for those special coins!

The coin is very nice and well cared for. It is exactly what I had been searching for some time, and economically it was not feasible. The timing for the bid was by luck, and I got this terrifc morgan silver dollar for a song.
