She is not a coin collector, but was pleased by the thought.

This particular coin was struck in San Francisco, in 1923. At that time so were 19 million others, so, as such; it is anything but rare. And that's why I bid on it. I was looking for a piece of commonplace history and in this coin I have it.
I love it that this particular dollar, although obviously used, was treated gently. True, it has a nick on the obverse (maybe it was dropped at some point) and some of the detail is worn smooth; but, in general, it's still pretty. Most of them are; it's a lovely design. Then, too, almost every coin tells a story for those who care to read it.
There are those who buy and sell coins for a living and others who think of coins like this one as an investment. A coin like this would be a bad choice for these people at any price higher than $20 - $25, as of this writing (including shipping).
But, for those of us who declare that something can be a treasure simply because we say so (for instance, it may remind us of a favorite grandparent or a graduation day) decide what's affordable and make your bid. Don't worry about losing the auction - another one exactly like it will come along.

At .7735 troy oz of silver the 1923 Peace Dollar is a great way to accumulate precious metal to hedge against inflation. It has instant recoginition and eye appeal to boot. There is nothing that sounds quite like the ring of 3/4 oz. of silver dropped on a table or bar top. There is nothing I don't like about the 1923 Silver Peace dollar. A bargain price for a piece of Americana.

Love Estate sales; gambler in me. Sometimes you win sometimes you don't.

Not the best coin I've ever bought, but it is from a Estate and this makes it more valuable to me; as someone had saved it before. Got it at a good price and can resell when ready always a good investment... Always watching for Estate sales especially Silver Eagles and Gold Eagles. Must remember you are taking a risk, sometimes you win sometimes you don't.

Because I'm a collector of silver and gold coins. I also relate the coin with history. 1923 the rise of Hitler to power. The flapper scene and speak easy joints. The birth of a relative. The year of the coin and its association with history is constant reminder of things not to be forgotten.
