|Be a proud collector of a 1979 Susan B. Anthony Dollar that was minted from the year 1979 to 1981, and again in 1999. This Susan B. Anthony Dollar coins were introduced as an alternative to the dollar note in 1979. The obverse of this copper coin represented women's suffrage campaigner Susan B. Anthony. For the first time, a portrait of an actual woman was engraved on the coin rather than an allegorical female figure such as 'Liberty’. The reverse side of the 1979 Susan B. Anthony Dollar shows an eagle flying above the moon with the Earth in the background to commemorate the Apollo 11 moon landing. Initially, this Susan B. Anthony Dollar was struck with dodecagon (11 sided) appearance to easily differentiate the coins from other denominations. However, following protests from the vending machine manufacturers, a round shape with reeded edge was adopted along with an eleven sided border for this Susan B. Anthony Dollar copper coin to deter its counterfeiting and fraudulent use.|
