Great Reading of a Science Fiction Classic!

Wonderful Reading
Origins
In 1964 Stanley Kubrick (Dr. Strangelove) went to Arthur C. Clarke with the desire to make "a good science fiction movie", 2001 A Space Odyssey is a direct result of this grand endeavor. Although the book takes one to a different destination than that of the 1968 movie (because Kubrick was unsatisfied with special effects of Saturn and its rings he moved their destination to Jupiter) the ideas and story is still very much the same.
Plot
The Time is 2001, as the Moon has been colonized and is meticulously being explored, a discovery there of an ancient artifact will lead a group of explorers to the Rings of Saturn to find the answers to a three million year old question. What they find their will clarify Man's Past and forever alter his future.
Overall
Written five whole years before man stepped foot on the moon 2001 A Space Odyssey takes one on a journey of great mystery and adventure. A must read for any Science Fiction fan and well read by Dick Hill in this edition of the book on CD.

One of the all time best

I saw this movie before I read the book and I wish I had not, the book is 10 times better than the movie in that you get more into the mind of the characters. When the movie was first shown in the local theater in 1968 it was very misunderstood and many left the theatre wondering what was going on however Stanley Kubrick brought out the best in Arthur C. Clarke when they worked together to make the movie.
The way Clarke brings space to life in this story was years ahead of it's time. You have to remember that prior to 1969 only a hand full of humans had ever even been in space, let alone established colonies or built ships large enough for anyone to live in.
2001 is one of the best space stories ever written and I highly recommend all Sci-Fi fans to add this one to their collection.
