21st Century Vinyl: Michael Fremer's Turntable Setup
Created: 12/10/10
I would recommend "21st Century Vinyl: Michael Fremer's Practical Guide to Turntable Setup" to anyone getting back into Vinyl Records after realizing that they actually prefer the Analog Vinyl Sound over the Digital CD Sound. Not only does Michael Fremer Guide you through the history of different formats, Record Mastering, and Detailed Turntable Setup, he does so in a way that is instructional, interesting, entertaining and often hilarious! If you want to setup your own turntable rather than trusting a complete stranger to do it, this disc is absolutely indispensable.

Some useful information, but incomplete, and carelessly presented.

The production values of this video are terrible. But the bigger problem is Fremer's offhand, careless delivery. Obviously unrehearsed and unscripted, Fremer stumbles through describing turntable setup, often making wrong or inaccurate statements which are corrected by subtitles which flash briefly on the screen. When he is describing intricacies of setup, there are no close-ups to show the hardware (tone arm pivot etc.) being explained, which makes the video much less useful. It would have been a great video if he had taken an hour to script it. Obviously shot off-the-cuff and in one take, like a Youtube video.
