300 Paper-pieced Quilt Blocks by Carol Doak (2004, Other, Mixed media product)

300 Paper-pieced Quilt Blocks has a CD-ROM included that makes printing the block patterns amazingly easy. The best part of this is being able to size the block to any size you want. The blocks default to a 4" finished size, but you can make them as large or as small as you want. I particularly like being able to change the length and width independently. For one project, I made a border by printing 4 copies of a block 2" x 2" and skewing the block to 2" x 4" for the side pieces. I printed 8 of these skewed blocks and used 2 on each side of an 8" center, with the 4 2"-square blocks in the corners. The resulting quilt made of these blocks has blown away the people I showed it to, and I'm embarrassed to say I haven't admitted to anyone that the "difficult" borders were the easiest part of the whole project. People look at the intricate patterns and think you're an amazing quilter, when it's really all smoke and mirrors. Carol's designs only look hard. She breaks the pattern down into easy little pieces, then shows you how to put these pieces together to make eye-popping quilts your children and grandchildren will fight over.

Very easy to follow. Lots of variety in blocks. Full colour pictures of each block to give ideas. Would be nice to have been spiral bound so you could take pages out for re-producing blocks.

I just heard Carol Doak speak at our quilt guild. Since then I have tried and am hooked on paper piecing. I love that it has the cd to print out your pattern. With the cd, it cuts down on alot of time tracing patterns. It has alot of great patterns.

Great book! Best paper piecing directions I have ever followed. The Cd allows you to re-size the blocks.

I first learned to paper piece in a quilting class, that I took a few years ago. But they didn't teach me nearly as much as Carol Doak and her excellent books have taught me...I love to paper piece and I can't say enough good things about her books. Thanks Linda
