Bringing Mamet to the Screen
Created: 01/07/06
It is always difficult to move a play to the screen, but the young actors who take on the formidable task of David Mamet's dialogue do a credible job with it. Rob Lowe and Jim Belushi are solid in their portral of the two friends struggling with young adult relationships.
This is one where reading the play first will help. The opening monologue is a classic!

Great vintage movie. . .. its so much fun to watch these stars in an early film. Demi Moore and Rob Lowe are great. James Belushi and Elizabeth McGovern are hilarious. Get this movie and watch the stars before they were as famous as they are now.

Last Night

The light hearted comedy about dating and hooking up with chicks is so funny within this movie. When he does all the things he is not to do, while being chided by his best friend. Hitting it off with (Demi) eventually prove to be fatal to his bar hopping, chick picking up days. Demi change his heart. I think its one of the greatest of all time LOVE STORIES, but what do I know; I am a just a guy ;-)

Is This A Chick Flick or Not?
| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I am sure that a lot of potential male viewers dismissed this movie as a chick flick. But with all the absolutely hilarious one-liners and the rampant sex between the two leads, it's time to take a second look.
Made in 1986, this movie is definitely a forerunner to the popular TV series, Two and Half Men. Based on the play, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, this movie introduces us to Danny Martin (Rob Lowe) and Bernie (James Belushi) as great friends in their 20s. They do everything together--work, baseball, bar-hopping, celebrating holidays but not dating. So what happens when Danny meets Debbie (Demi Moore) and they fall in love. Bernie, who provides great stories of his supposed sexual escapades, at the very least tries to break them up. He has a complementary ally on Debbie's side too. Elizabeth Perkins plays Debbie's friend and roommate, Joan, who is just as full of laughable moments as Bernie. She is working just as hard to blow a hole in the relationship.
And Debbie and Danny don't need too much to ruin their relationship. While sex is great, the boundaries of living together get messed up many times. This movie illustrates the enigma of modern times. How do you live without the opposite sex and how do you live with it?
This movie didn't win any awards nor was it nominated. It did well at the box office due to the draw of Moore and Lowe, but it is certainly worth watching to try to understand the complexity of modern dating and sexual liberation.
