Album Notes
The Cranberries: Dolores O'Riordan (vocals, acoustic guitar); Noel Hogan (guitar, background vocals); Mike Hogan (bass); Feargal Lawlor (drums, percussion).Additional personnel: Mike Mahoney (background vocals).Recorded at Windmill Studios, Dublin, Ireland. All tracks have been digitally remastered. The Cranberries, more so than almost any contemporary group now coming out of Ireland, translate the lyric delicacy and metaphorical melancholy of Gaelic folk music to a rock format. The Cranberries are a tight little band with a sound all their own, though at times many of their songs do suggest some sort of strange communion between U2 and Bjork. How so? The gossamer strains of Noel Hogan's electric guitar recall The Edge's spacy chording, but Hogan's rhythmic focus tends more towards eclectic folk stylings (a la Richard Thompson) than the arena gestures of rock. Which isn't to say that his dancing interplay with bassist Mike Hogan and drummer Feargal Lawlor lacks impact. Quite the contrary. Songs such as "Dream" and "Waltzing Back" illustrate the band's special chemistry and harmonic buoyancy, as airy chording gives way to punchy riffs and gruff power chords. But it is The Cranberries remarkable vocalist Dolores O'Riordan who defines the band's unique sound and broad appeal. O'Riordan has an eccentric, emotive style and a stunning vocabulary of guttural whoops and throttled cries (to particular effect on "Pretty"). On "I Still Do" she doubletracks her breathless voice (as she does throughout EVERYBODY ELSE...), creating a mournful melodic ambience as the band rises to match her emotional peaks in a tale of a played out love that will not die. This plaintive tone of O'Riordan resonates throughout EVERYBODY ELSE IS DOING IT, SO WHY CAN'T WE? "You mystify me, you mystify me" she intones dimly as if in a haze on "Sunday" as the band tolls away behind her, while on "Waltzing Back" her yodeling cries and muttered grace notes impart tremendous power to each phrase in this clannish dance.

Great debut from a unique band.

Created: 08/05/07
The Cranberries have not failed to satisfy me throughout the years. I actually started listening to this unique band when they came up with "No Need to Argue" their second album. Then I went to their third and so forth. Either way, I love the Cranberries. Dolores, the lead singer, has a great singing voice that goes from wispers to carnal screams. "Everybody Else...." is the most mellow of out of all Cranberries' albums. Yet, it has something je ne sais que about it...very soothing, romantic and yet rocking. Great to meditate, dream and make love to. Or rock out to, in a more mellow way, of course. Great driving music too, relaxing. I highly recommend the Cranberries to anyone who likes rock, 90's music, female singers and lovely tunes.

This is the breakthrough album of the Irish band the Cranberries.

The Cranberries gave a breath of fresh air to the alternative scene with Dreams and Linger.
I fell in love with Dolores' voice the moment I heard it as not to be duplicated.
So phenomenal and adding her own Irish(twang if you call it) to make it a unique and beautiful masterpiece.
This is one album I will never tire of , just have to rebuy it when the cd is worn from so much play

Everybody Else Is Writing A Review, So Why Can't I?

Created: 09/11/06
Definitely one of the best CDs I've ever randomly bought (I got very lucky, I know). It has one of the greatest songs in the world on the track, and as the professionals say, it has a certain deliciously haunting quality to it, thanks to the lead singers voice.
My only possible complain is that the Cranberries don't change it up a lot. Some of the songs sound the same, which can get a little old.
All in all, it's still a really good CD, and I still recommend it - despite the minor repition.

The Cranberries - Everybody Else is Doing It...

Created: 09/04/07
The Cranberries was my introduction into Irish pop in the early 90's. Their melodic, melancholic, and unique Euro pop/alternative sound is fused with Dolores O' Riordan's whimsical voice, which sometimes draws comparisons to Sinead O' Connor. I was pleased to come across this CD recently, as I had first heard The Cranberries about fourteen years ago and loved them. This CD includes their unforgettable landmark song, "Dreams", which is also on the "You've Got Mail" (Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan) soundtrack.

I decided to buy this album for the song Dreams. I didn't have the Cranberries in my collection. I really like the group and the lead singer's voice
