Album Notes
The Pursuit Of Happiness: Moe Berg (guitar, vocals), Kris Abbott (vocals, guitar), Brad Barker (bass), Dave Gilby (drums).Additional personnel: Rachel Oldfield (vocals); Todd Rundgren (guitar); Paul McCandless (oboe); Ed Stasium (percussion).Recorded at Sound City, Los Angeles, California from March 30 to June 19, 1992.The Downward Road -- the title comes from what Berg views as the "descent" into adulthood -- is strangely endearing. Berg's sexually explicit lyrics will be provocative to some. But there's such an honest matter-of-factness to his delivery, in an early Todd Rundgren kind of way, that it translates instead to a friendly awkwardness. Especially effective are sparser numbers like "Pressing Lips" and "Heavy Metal Tears" where Berg exposes his unadorned voice for all to poke and prod at. Straightforward rocker "Cigarette Dangles" has a distinctively Kim Mitchell feel to it. In fact, Ed Stasium's no-nonsense production helps deliver TPOH's most direct and accessible recording to date. ~ Roch Parisien

Editorial Reviews
...a typically witty, literate batch of guitar-fueled power pop, driven by Berg's wry, sexy, observational songwriting...
Spin (19930501)

3 Stars - Good - ...slamming rhythms, fat guitar, harmonic daring and lyrics you'll still respect in the morning...
Rolling Stone (19930610)
