With both critical and popular acclaim from her affiliation with the Fugees, Lauryn uses THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL to make a definitive individual statement. The focus here is love: love of self, love of her son, the love of her life, love of hip-hop. Her powerful lyrics and vocal talent put her in a class by herself. One of hip-hop's more strong-willed artists, Lauryn's positivity defies the '90s materialistic rap scene. Although there is much more singing than rapping, Lauryn still covers plenty of hip-hop ground on THE MISEDUCATION, and her music falls into the rap category just as much as it does into R&B. Produced by Hill herself, this album gives us only a few guest artists (D'Angelo, Mary J.) but lots of Lauryn Hill.

Editorial Reviews
Ranked #67 in Mojo's 100 Modern Classics -- Hill's debut dazzled, with old school soul, heart-breaking break-up songs and metaphysical raps providing an unbroken chain of dizzying highs.

Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - As Good As Advertised

Created: 07/08/09
this is one of the best CDs i've ever purchased. it is such and old CD by someone who didn't make many CDs (trust me, it was only by her choice) but it still makes people wonder when she is going to release another one. i will admit that there are maybe one or two good songs on the CD but the rest are great songs. there are plenty of classics and it is a very versatile album. it has a soulful R&B feel to it but she uses her talent very well to also make some soulful and meaningful rap songs. it is a CD with a lot to say about love, the music industry, family, etc. it is a must-have in ANY CD collection.

P.S. the first four are some of my favorite but you will love "Nothing Even Matters" (her duet with R&B artist D'Angelo). listen to the end for songs like "Tell Him" and "2 Good 2 B True." better yet just put the CD in and listen to it all the way through until you come back to track #1.

Lauryn Hill on Her Own & On Fire!

Created: 19/10/06
The key. It's the flow, the flavor and the personality of the album. This album is hip hop with a real soul with Strong and Dynamic words AND beats.

Her voice. Textured and smooth all at once, you can lend her your ear, without reservations.

Her words. The fact that she chooses to say something of substance versus anything to sell a record makes this album the kind that all types of music lovers will value for a long time. Plus, you don't have to shut it off when somebody you respect enters the room, its clean and still powerful.

Comparison. I wish there was more in this vien of music. And while this album (which is polished, well executed, hip-hop, but still honest) is completely different from her MTV unplugged album (which was raw, folksy, soulful, undone but honestly beautiful), they are both powerful bodies of work that get my praise!

Favorite tracks: Ex-Factor, When It Hurt So Bad, and I Used to Love Him. Perfect break up songs, put the album in, feel strong, be free and go on. Plus the two hidden tracks will leave you with hope that it can and will be better the next time around.

Great to play with... the Sun-roof back, windows down, shades on, and the tank full of gas. These are the rhythms that usher me into the a great vacation or at least a perfect moment of freedom.

This is still a classic, Enjoy!--MsJTRAVEL

Must have!

Created: 09/05/10
This is probably one of the best CDs the 90's has to offer. From "Doo Wop (That Thing)" to the bonus track "Tell Him" every song has a story from a point in Lauryn's life that speaks universally to all who hear it. Stories of love, lost love - and life how good or bad it can be. The overall theme is that we don't really know what to do, nothing is certain but love, from the love of our family to the love of a significant other. Lauryn Hill shows that she is more than a pretty face through this album, she reveals that she is a philosophical thinker.

Timeless

Created: 21/07/08
I bought this copy of Lauryn Hill's cd, which was released about 10 years ago, simply because I miss her style, her music, and her element from the music world. Not to mention that, back then, I had the cassette tape. lol. So, now I have the cd, which I can play anywhere. More importantly, her songs are like her father-in-law's (Bob Marley), timeless. And, to prove it, her album is still selling at virtually the same price as a new album. She had her moment, we had her and were captivated by her and her music, and somewhere along the lines, we lost her. Life happens. I just wish she was stronger mentally, spiritually, and emotionally to overcome the trials and tribulations that were thrown her way (mostly by her husband), and that she would get back on the music scene and reclaim her stance. All we really have of her is this one great solo album (plus her other songs with the Fugees). Listening to it, her music still strikes many chords within me. So, I'm glad I finally decided to buy it again. Bless up Lauryn!!
