Product Information
With some of the best gameplay gamers have ever witnessed, 40 WINKS offers a wide variety of fun for everyone. But it's more than just great gameplay; 40 WINKS also has a very intriguing story line. An evil magician named "NiteKap" has a terrible case of insomnia. No matter what he tries, he can't fall asleep--and the more tired he gets, the harder it is for him to nod off. That's why he decides to ruin everyone's sleep by turning mystical creatures called "Winks" into "Hood-Winks," which are evil and nasty. The "Hood-Winks" infest people's dreams and turn them into nightmares that scare little children. It's up to you to destroy the evil plans of NiteKap, and rescue the last 40 Winks. To do this, you must enter the six dream worlds and defeat the enemies within. Perhaps the best feature of this game is your character's ability to turn into the things he dreams. You'd better pick up this title today, or you may never sleep again.

What could have been a good game, is not...

Created: 09/11/06
I had bought this game about 2 years ago, and actually forgot to play it. Well I had some extra time on my hands, so I popped it in, to cash in on my $35 investment. But to my dismay, this journey was a sour one.

Here are the details.

Gameplay 5/10
Elements 5/10: The game is a basically an adventure game/platformer. In the beginning it shows a lot of promise to be a great game, however, the gameplay is very mundane. 40 Winks seems to be a compilation of all the things you may hate in a bad platform/adventure game. What could have been a fun game, is nothing but a series of jumps, and a bunch of items. I LOVE platformers/adventure games, but this game truly does not deliver in that area.
Controls 5/10: The controls are pretty horrible. I think I will just leave it at that.
Difficulty 7/10: As most games of its genre, it is above average difficulty. However the reason I gave it a 7/10 is that, in some areas, the bad camera angles promote to you missing jumps, and having to redo them. Not to mention, the camera movement is so bad, it made me get a headache everytime I played for 2 hours or more. And I usually play games 8+ hours at a time.

Story 5/10
Not much going on in that department.

Audio 6/10
The sound is pretty average, and again there really isn't much to mention about the sound. And after all that is not what a platformer is all about :)

Graphics 8/10
The FMVs are great looking, and that definitely boosts the rating for graphics. The first FMV is so nice, that it leads you to believe that the game is going to be awesome :) The gameplay graphics are also pretty good, so all in all I believe it deserves an 8/10 for graphics.

Value 5/10
This game has bad gameplay. It also doesn't really have much replay value. So when all is said and done, this is definitely not worth buying. As far as renting, I also don't recommend it unless you have don't have any other games to play. Considering there are so many good games that are worth your time that you could play , I don't think it's worth wasting time, playing this game.

I hope this review helps someone :)

This game has always been the victim of bad reviews. But when I booted this game up I found the corny, sugary sweet kids theme was not as bad as a lot of reviewers were saying. If you can handle a little of that the game really is quite good. The premise of the game is very simple. As with most platformers, you walk around, collect things, and beat up enemies. Nothing new there. The graphics are excellent and seamless. As a grown man I found this to be very entertaining and I could not put the controller down. It even gets quite challenging the farther you move through the game. The kids should love this one too. The plot might be a little stupid, but I rarely play games for the plot. Game play and challenge are the two most important things to me when searching for new games to play.

I'll give this game a 5 out of 6 on the Budweiser scale.

I purchased it for a friend that had searched for it for years without any success. It was an older game that is very hard to find, naturally ebay was the place to search. Thanks
