Movie synopsis

Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) rides his bike to his stockperson job at Smart Tech, has a nice apartment filled with collectable toys (in their original packages), and plays videogames every night before bed. He's also a 40-year-old virgin. During a poker game with his coworkers David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogen), talk turns to sex and it becomes very clear that Andy doesn't know what he's talking about. His friends become intent on remedying his situation, and their advice leads to newfound confidence for naïve Andy. But when he develops true feelings for single mother Trish (Catherine Keener), Andy finds that all the sex advice in the world won't help him navigate the choppy waters of an adult relationship. In Andy, Carrell has found a perfect comic creation who is hilarious, lovable, and rooted in reality. Rudd, Malco, and Rogen are also perfectly cast as Andy's cheerleaders. The script, by Carrell and first-time director Judd Apatow (producer of TV's FREAKS AND GEEKS), is consistently funny, and--despite its relentless crudity--treats its nerdy protagonist with the utmost respect. This rare quality and its high laugh-to-joke ratio make VIRGIN one of the most enjoyable comedies of the decade.

Very funny, but a little more racy than expected!!

Created: 28/09/06
We love this movie but even we were a tad surprised when we watched it as it is very racy to put it mildly with colorful language and talk!! But that aside, it is a great story, with funny characters and a very cute ending!!
Steve Carell stars as Andy, a fella who quite frankly is a bit of a nerd. He is 40 and lives in a small apartment, alone, except for his collection of action and superhero figures. He rides a bike everywhere and works in an electronics store...where his buddies figure out he is : A 40 year old Virgin!!
So, it will not take a genius to figure out that the premise of this movie is his or more the friends, challenge the virgin status and encourage him to take the proverbial plunge.
This movie has a host of stars....besides Carell...Paul Rudd, Catherine Keener and the very funny Jayne Lynch star....Lynch plays a funny character in his boss, who is more than happy to help Andy lose his virgin status...but remains deadpan as she extends the offers!!
To cut a long story short...Andy falls for Keeners Character, while trying to skirt around the whole virgin issue to the point that is almost dissolves the relationship - of course his buddies are there to help along the way!
Yes, it is rude, crass and has more than its fair share of potty humor...but there again what do you expect from a film called "The 40 year old virgin"...I love this..if you want to laugh loud, no matter how silly or juvenile the jokes are....then you have a funny plot with great actors and an all around hysterical movie!

The perfect movie for any bad mood looking to turn things around. Steve Carrel's performance as Andy, the 40 year-old virgin himself, is uproariously hilarious. With an amazing supporting cast featuring such comedy A-listers as Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd (who have a scene that steals the show), you're sure not to be let down by this 2005 comedy.

This movie is embarrassingly funny!

Created: 09/11/07
The 40-year-old Virgin is an absolutely hilarious movie about a man, who at 40 is still a virgin, and knows very little about women, his friends at the electronics store attempt help him lose his virginity, while he is falling in love with a women he meets, and doesn't know how to tell about his 'situation.' This movie is very entertaining because Steve Carell has the ability to embarass himself and make you laugh and feel embarassed for him. Very entertaining!!!

40 Yr Old Virgin is a Hilarious movie

This is a movie I can watch over and over again and still laugh like crazy! I love this movie and had to add it to our home movie collection. The humor is well played and just keeps rolling. Steve Carell gives a wonderful rendition of a geeky guy whose never been quite lucky enough to sew his wild oats. He's befriended by coworkers who take him under their wing to aid and assist! The male-bonding in this film is hilarious. I laughed past the rolling credits! Finally, a movie that really IS funny!! I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars and two snaps UP, in a circle!! Go get it!

My Review of "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" DVD Movie

Created: 07/10/06
Though I think there's an excessive use of needless vulgarity and profanity in the movie, I'm able to look past that fact and laugh at the situational humor which is VERY funny (like the hair waxing segment, for example), in my opinion. It has become one of, if not THE most hilarious movie in my 150+ DVD collection... and I LOVE comedies, and have PLENTY of them. I had never seen it in the theaters before, but purchased it rather out of sheer curiosity, and after reading a couple of favorable online reviews about it. I am now most glad that I DID purchase it. I personally recommend purchasing it to anyone versus renting it, because you're undoubtedly going to want to watch it over and over and over, again, that's IF you can overlook the vulgar language, and rate it for what it was meant to be, and that is to make you laugh. And believe me, you'll be doing plenty of that! ☻
