Palmaccio.Recording information: Criteria Recording Studios, Miami, FL (04/1974-05/1974).Photographer: David Gahr.Arrangers: Eric Clapton; Carl Radie. After playing the 1973 Rainbow Concerts that were arranged by good friend Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton returned to Florida's Criteria Recording Studio to cut 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD. Because of a stint of personal turmoil, Clapton had not played guitar for two years preceeding the Rainbow Concerts, but with the help of a core group of musicians including George Terry, former Derek & the Dominos bassist Carl Radle, Jamie Oldaker, and Yvonne Elliman, Slowhand put together an album that many consider to be his best.Focusing more on his singing than his guitar pyrotechnics of the past, the new, improved Clapton used a laid-back, J.J. Cale-type vocal style to great effect on a mellow version of "Willie And The Hand Jive" and Elmore James's "I Can't Hold Out." Far from being a kinder, gentler guitar hero, Clapton also showed considerable spark on a slide-drenched "Motherless Children" and the driving "Mainline Florida," which closes out the album. Of course, his cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" was the musical statement that took him to the top of the charts and let the general public know he was back. 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD is still one of the highest points of Clapton's solo career.

461 Ocean Boulevard [Remaster] -Clapton, Eric (CD 1996)

Perhaps Clapton's most important early album, with his hit "I Shot the Sheriff," this is a classic collection of solid Clapton cream of the cream. It leads off with a favorite song of Blind Willie Johnson's, "Motherless Children Have a Hard Time," and was probably learned from Texas Bluesman Mance Lipscomb, who carried on Johnson's slide techniques. Clapton makes "Motherless Children" his own, rollicking through with his wailing guitar, and shows his early interest in blues, which today he represents as importantly as rock & roll. You can't help but rock your head with bluzy "Willie and The Hand Jive," and you can taste the California wine as you imagine a Pacific sunset while "Let It Grow" swims in your soul. You'll smile as you recognize "Mainline Florida" and instantly rock with Eric's soaring vocals and epic guitar riffs. Eric Clapton is truly an under-appreciated American legend... and YOU can help stop that! An essential album, that has only gotten better with time. Thank you Eric!

461 Ocean Blvd. was a pivotal cd in the career of Eric Clapton. His voice became as admired as his guitar talent. he amassed an eclectic mix of songs from such diverse influences, as Robert Johnson, Bob Marley, Boyer & Tallton, as well as some what are now classic originals such as Let it Grow.Backing vocals by Yvonne Elliman set the pace for future Clapton tours to include female backing vocals.

E-Bay C.D. shopping

Created: 09/08/10
I, have been replacing my favorite vinyl records of years past, with high quality C.D.'s, no more pops and skipping with my well loved/used records E-Bay makes shopping for rare / hard to find items easy and the vender's discription made my selection a breeze. With local music stores a luxury of the past, flea markets, and thrift stores take too much time. There's no better way to browse the music isles than a good E-Bay vendor. It works well for Me !!, and will continue my Quest with my favorite E-Bay vendors !
Thanks for the satisfying help. Try it, You'll be pleased too, just leave me mine. O.K.??
