Nooooot the Best

This isn't too useful. As a matter of fact, Niel bored me. Everything was all based around one drum solo: Der Trommler (The Drummer). Yes, the first time it was played was awesome, but when he kept going and deciphering every little detail about that one damn drum solo it got me wanting to fast forward! Later, he did "Exploration" solos which I thought were just too long and conventional.

If you want a GOOD DVD to know how to do a drum solo. Get Benny Greb or Steve Smith. Not Niel Peart.

A comprehensive guide to Peart's solo.

Created: 03/08/08
Unlike many instructional DVD's, this is a guide of the complete drum solo (Der Trommler from the R30 dvd), where Neil takes us through each part and explains which rythms, effects etc. that he uses, why he uses them and how the drum solo is worked out for the show.
The Second dvd has many interesting stuff on it as well. We can see when Neil's roadie rigs up the kit, piece by piece. Also, there's a clip about th Sabian Paragon series and some interviews. All in all a good dvd that I think will please both drummers as Rush fans!

Neil Peart's solos in every detail..

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

This DVD examines Neil Peart's drumming and solo concepts in minutia. He is an articulate, focused musician, and the long solos and tech features are informative, but rest up: if you are tired when you watch this long show you may find yourself nodding off: it's that long! The camera work and setup is the best, so you can really see the moves. If you are in to Rush, the Tom Sawyer segment will make you happy!
That said, I can see where there would be some who think the amount of detail could be bored with it,(so press the pause or stop button, and come back!) but this is just one drummer's approach, and better too much than too little.
