Defend freedom once more in this latest entry in the SOCOM series, which features new weapons and vehicles for single player and co-op modes, as well as connectivity and story arc with the PSP SOCOM game Fireteam Bravo 2.
Protect America and freedom from enemy forces in urban and rural warfare in SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault, exclusively for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault builds on the strengths of the multimillion-selling franchise to firmly establish both its single-player and multiplayer as equally outstanding game experiences. Created in association with U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault is as close as a player can get to being a Navy SEAL on PlayStation 2.
The PlayStation 2 system's top online gaming franchise continues its assault with an all-new 4-player cooperative play, improved enemy behavior and tactics, and new vehicles and weapons for campaign mode. Command the most feared Special Forces team ever assembled through a single, massive Area of Operation with varied missions spanning across multiple diverse regions.
Players can experience the campaign mode in single player or in 4-player online cooperative mode. Additionally, players will have the option to select an individual tactical mission area that was previously completed, and play it as a stand-alone, or 'Instant Action', mission in 4-player online cooperative play. Players can then customize these Instant Action missions for nearly endless replay.
SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault will also contain the full SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs multiplayer online game with all maps, patches and updates included and it will be completely compatible with SOCOM 3 Online multiplayer. In addition it will feature new competitive 32-player maps, exclusive to SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault. Improved Crosstalk functionality between SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault allows each game to have even more dramatic effects on the progression of the other, in addition to unlocking special features across the titles.
KEY FEATURES

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault Review
There have been games aplenty on the Xbox where the online multiplayer mode was like the icing on a sweet pastry while the PS2 was slightly left behind in that department. Then again, Sony and Zipper Interactive’s SOCOM series proved that the console is more than capable of giving shooting fans something to sink their teeth into and thoroughly enjoy. The franchise reached new heights with SOCOM 3, a game that brought us more of what we love about the series so you can only imagine our delight at the prospect of a fourth game in the series. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault might not be a dramatically different game for the series but the few improvements and great multiplayer experience make this a SOCOM game you should not miss.
Combined Assault has a surprisingly inventive connection to the PSP’s SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 that goes beyond its neat Crosstalk feature (more on that a bit later). For starters, both games share the same locale during the single-player campaign mode and the stories for both games interconnect with each other. In several missions, you’ll find that Fireteam Bravo cleared an area for you or are waiting for you to tackle on a particularly well guarded area before they can attempt a rescue mission seen on the PSP. Combined Assault begins with a failed rescue mission in the fictional country of Adjikistan as a SEAL team is attempting to escape with a valuable CIA operative. Unfortunately, “the package” never makes it so you are tasked with heading into enemy territory to recover him as well as discovering the secrets he has discovered.
The single-player campaign mode doesn’t force you to take on the missions in a linear fashion but rather you have the freedom to pick the mission you would like to take on with your team. After the first introductory mission, you are given a choice of related missions. The best part is that these missions are actually lengthy but most important, they are also really fun. Part of the reason the campaign missions are so enjoyable is the fact that the mission objectives have you performing a number of fun tasks that have you doing everything from taking out watchtower guards to securing prisoners in an abandoned gulag. The environments are also large; giving gamers the feeling of total freedom to approach each objective anyway they wish. Why infiltrate an enemy camp through the road used most by the enemy when you can enter the camp through a hidden path to the south?
Vehicles are back and this time they’re classified by slow and heavily armored (Armor), light and agile (Recon) or just fast (Support). You’ll take command of Humvees as well as boats and once again the vehicle controls work perfectly. Speaking of controls, the shooting and strafing moves are solid and you can issue orders on the fly. There are also more weapons and you can even unlock a few more that just plain rock whether you’re using them in the single-player campaign or in the game’s multiplayer mode. This is the beauty of Crosstalk, a feature that comes from your PS2 interacting with your PSP via a copy of Fireteam Bravo 2. It’s good to see a feature that has a handheld interacting with the console in ways that has you downloading a good deal of extras.
5 OUT OF 5 A MUST HAVE TITLE!

Socom's Successor Well Done

Socom was a hit, then came along Socom 2. This to became a hit also. Socom 3 came aboard with its vehicles and new modes online and other cool things also, A HIT. This one here, is also a hit too. Its similar to Socom 3 but it has some twists and turns for the good. Like going from a selected type of weaponry that you can pick, but you have no weight balance or anything along the lines, believe me, it does. Before that, the missions are all good. Unfortunately, our friend Boomer does die from the first mission indication. From then on, it gives you a burning desire to do a little extra more for him whether you like him or not. The missions though are very nice and well thought out. You go destroy helicopter crashes to collecting data and to those sweet little extras you can get done when and if you have a PSP or not. These little goodies are called cross talk and even in the missions themselves you can find "sausages" that you can get, to unlock little nifty things and secrets. Then the squad tactics and headset or not commands are very intuitive. With a tap of a button you can tell the team to either go hot or stay cool, or they can go to you(regroup) or actually go to crosshairs(pointing at that is) location by a simple tap or press of a button.(L2 i believe) Plus when you go to the command screen, you can say the command in mind with the USB head set like the others still. Now when you go to the screen for weapons and stuff, you can actually pick what you would like for that level. You can take a sniper or the classic M4A1. Then you have the 2 options to select which add ons you would like to have on it. Then your secondary weapon can be picked with an add on too(laser for example). Then you can pick certain types of grenades and inventory you would like to have, from extra ammo or med kits, to different grenades and scopes and others also. Then when you select it all, you have to judge that with your weight total and try to counter balance that. This game truly defines a great Socom and great all around shooter for almost any one that likes shooters.

Socom: Combined Assault

It's the last game it the SOCOM series specifically for PS2. I don't have the money nor the desire for PSP. It doesn't have as much variance and freedom in the number, uniqueness, and specifics of the commands you can give your teammates (i.e. you can't send bravo to Nav. point delta unless you have your crosshairs pointing right at it., others similar) Although, you CAN send one bravo to one spot and send the other bravo to another. that is good. it is better than all of the rest by a little bit. the graphics are a bit better and you do have a few more things that you can do in the game. it's much easier to take prisoners. rifle butts only hurt enemy, not kill instantly. overall, a slightly better game. Def. harder than all prior games.
