Movie synopsis

IN THEATERS APRIL 14, 2006This latest spoof of horror films covers recent releases like THE VILLAGE and is directed by David Zucker (AIRPLANE!)., No spoof is left unturned in director and parody-meister David Zucker's SCARY MOVIE 4, the latest installment in the popular horror-c**-humor series. Among several returnees from previous films, Anna Faris reprises her role as Cindy Campbell, the eternally unlucky and hilariously clumsy heroine. In a send-up of 2004's THE GRUDGE, Campbell is assigned as full-time nurse to a mysterious old lady in a house haunted by the ghost of a small boy. In a takeoff of 2005's WAR OF THE WORLDS, next door lives Tom Ryan (Craig Bierko), a divorced dock worker somewhat in charge of his two kids, who is called into action as Alien TriPods (remove the "Tr" for a hint at the inspiration for their invention) seek to destroy Earth. The two meet and quickly fall in love. Joined by Cindy's ever-present sidekick, the flirtatious Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall), the protagonists must save the planet from aliens and solve the mystery of the ghostly boy. One of the stops along the way includes a sharp lampooning of THE VILLAGE, complete with appearances from SCARY MOVIE veterans Carmen Electra and Chris Elliot, and other cinematic spoofs, including BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, MILLION DOLLAR BABY, and SAW. The satirical wit extends beyond the movies, containing personal jabs both self-inflicted (Charlie Sheen, Shaquille O'Neal, and Dr. Phil) and not (Mike Tyson, Michael Jackson, and George W. Bush). Ultimately, there is more than enough funniness to sate the SCARY MOVIE or slapstick comedy fan's appetite.

In My Top 5 - Worst Movies Top 5 That Is!

Created: 15/09/06
I know it is the 4th installment in the series. And I know the first 3 were not very good either but this one was bad, really bad. So bad I fast forwarded a few scenes.

Take key scenes from Saw, War of the Worlds, The Village, The Grudge, Brokeback Mountain and Million Dollar Baby. Add juvenile bathroom humor (is that redundant?) and you have Scary Movie 4. That seems to be the formula for the entire series so I was not surprised, but Anna Faris usually saves the movies. This time not even the hilarious comedienne can make this worth a watch.

I have seen this series being compared to Airplane and Naked Gun - it is NOTHING like them! Those were parodies but original in their own way. Sure they took elements from other movies but they did not "sample" (to use a music term) from those films.

I love horror movies and love spoofs but this one is a dud. Go watch Scream, Young Frankenstein or the ultimate slasher spoof - Student Bodies.

Scary Movie 4 a dud- Or maybe it's just getting old...

Created: 05/10/06
I love a good spoof and thoroughly enjoyed Scary Movie and Scary Movie 3. One thing that USUALLY makes this series of movies so good is that many of the same characters keep making repeat appearances- even if they have "died" in a previous movie. But for me this 4th Scary Movie was just not as funny. Maybe it's getting old... At any rate, I didn't find the "borrowed" scenes from horror films (including, The Grudge, War of the Worlds and The Village) to be very well done this time and the storyline was not as good as in previous movies- it seemed more like a bunch of individual scenes squashed together rather than a coherent story. I also found much of the humor to be raw and even more juvenile than usual (more along the lines of Scary Movie 2)- like the overabundance of bathroom type humor that is carried WAY too far.

Great Spoofing!

Created: 13/08/06
This Scary Movie 4 has some old stuff and spoofs in it. There is one scene where a Mike Tyson is chewing on a ear. Dr. Phil is in this movie being spoofed. Hopefully you watched all the refered movies so you can understand the spoofs better. It just seems like such a long time for it to get released on DVD.

Better than 3

Created: 29/10/06
Scary movie 4 was a little step up from part 3. In part 4 they make fun of 'The Grudge', 'War of Worlds', 'The Village', 'Broke Back Mountain' and 'Saw'

Still corny like usual, buts that's the point of this series. The story was more in-line than part 3, as where part 3 seemed all over the place, and not all that funny. I found myself laughing considerably more during part 4.

It's worth a look.

Good movie if you enjoy this type of humor

Created: 31/08/06
This is not a movie that would make you laugh out loud, but it is entertaining. It follows the Airplan type humor formula. I enjoy it, but realize that if you do not like this type of humor then it would not be for you. Dr. Phil's cameo surprised me because he is pretty harsh on himself and his guests in a very entertaining way. I have a new respect for him after seeing his small role in Scary Movie 4. The bonus features on the DVD are as good, if not better than the movie itself. All in all, it is definately worth renting.
