Album Notes
The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Jimi Hendrix (vocals, guitar, bass); Noel Redding (vocals, bass); Mitch Mitchell (vocals, drums).Additional personnel: Chris Wood (flute); Freddie Smith (tenor saxophone); Al Kooper (piano); Mike Finnigan, Steve Winwood (organ); Jack Casady (bass); Buddy Miles (drums); Larry Faucette (congas).Principally recorded at the Record Plant, New York, New York in April and May 1968.On ELECTRIC LADYLAND Jimi Hendrix stretched and experimented in the studio, going beyond the power-trio format on what would be his last studio album with the Experience. ELECTRIC LADYLAND was revolutionary in its scope and execution. Using New York City's Record Plant as a gateway to free expression, Hendrix traversed an abstract landscape containing compositions as weird and wonderful as "...And The Gods Made Love" and "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)."Simultaneously looking forwards and backwards, Hendrix mixed in a song reminiscent of his time on the chitlin' circuit (Earl King's "Come On [Part 1]"), a Bob Dylan favorite ("All Along The Watchtower"), and one of his snappiest singles ("Crosstown Traffic"). Although Hendrix produced and wrote most of this masterpiece, others weighed in with their own contributions. Noel Redding penned "Little Miss Strange," and other guests such as Al Kooper and Buddy Miles showed up to play. Traffic's Steve Winwood and Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane also made cameos, appearing on this classic album's spiritual center, "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)."

This Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland CD was in good condition, not perfect, but pretty close. There were no scratches, no skips, but the collector stamps that came with it had worn ever slightly, however, considering how old this CD was this is not surprising. Having said that I know I would not be able to perserve this CD as well, especially one as this magnitude, being a classic in all. There are a few different issues of Electric Ladyland but I love this issue in particular for the fact that it was done before the new Hendrix estate took over, namley Janie Hendrix. Production on it was overseen by Alan Douglas in 94' who worked close with Jimi Hendrix before he past and was to start producing for him regularly. I think having it remastered in 94' was particularly significant because, now I feel the Hendrix estate is trying to fix something that was never broke if you will. Thus it caused for a more phoney sounding interpetation devoid of Jimi's creativity. Jimi Hendrix hand mixed much of this himself to perfection. It seems the years that have past allowed Alan Douglas, and whomever helped him work on this almbum, benefit in the remastering so as to work out all the kinks not over producing. It is my favorite remastering yet. I do wish it were mint condition, however under the circumstances, I would buy from this guy again.

Am adding to my CD collection. Old albums have "worn" out from many,
many enjoyable hours of play.
