Solid (Jay-Z lets them do their thing...)

Another good cd from the Roots. Addresses a myriad of issues, from Katrina, to Jay Dee's passing, to politics, the state of the rap game, etc. Black Thought & Malik B. bring straight fire. I love Thought because he raps about regular stuff, everyday goings on, not the fantasy and unrealistic escapism in nearly all of today's rap. I think its fair to say there wasn't another album this unique and underground to come out an a major label this year. Faves include "don't feel right," "here i come," "long time" (feat. peedi crack & bunny sigler) "clock w/ no hands" feat. mercedes of the jazzyfatnastees & "can't stop this," a tribute to Jay Dee.

I bought the CD based on 1 track I heard on the radio. There are some ok tracks but I am not crazy about most of the CD. I still however love the song I bought it far called "Don't Feel Right".

Fantastic musicianship, soulful grooves, socially aware lyrics, dope emceeing.
Cons:
"Atonement" makes me want to go take a nap.
They've been going at it for well over a decade at this point, and it's safe to say that unlike the qualitative trajectory of many rap artists, The Roots have gotten better as they've gotten older. When they started out, they were a relative novelty-there weren't many hip-hop bands around when they first took off, and at this point, they've become even MORE of a novelty, but their music was a lot meandering and a little boring. It took them three or four albums to find their focus, but they've gone from making ambitious albums to making great albums to making stone-cold classics. Their last...
