Album Notes
Personnel: Rod Stewart (vocals); Dean Parks, John Shanks, Tim Pierce (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar); Jamie Muhoberac (piano, Hammond b-3 organ); Patrick Warren (keyboards); David Stone (bass instrument); Leland Sklar, Paul Bushnell (bass guitar); Kenny Aronoff (drums); Lenny Castro (percussion); James Grundler, Julia Waters, Maxine Willard Waters (background vocals). There's one great, straightfaced joke on Rod Stewart's return to classic rock following his trio of standards: ever since it was a hit in 1978, casual AM radio listeners have mistaken Bonnie Tyler's "It's A Heartache" for a Rod Stewart single, given how much the scratchy-voiced Welsh singer sounded like 1970s-vintage Rod the Mod. On STILL THE SAME: GREAT ROCK CLASSICS OF OUR TIME, Stewart does a dead-on impersonation of Tyler's impersonation of himself; it's a great giggle and a good version of a good song. The rest of the set is perhaps less inspired, but equally fine: in arrangements that recall the no-frills, pubby rock-and-roll of his best solo albums, Stewart performs tunes familiar to any fans of '70s and '80s pop, from Badfinger's "Day After Day" to the Pretenders' power ballad "I'll Stand By You." His comfortable take on Bob Seger's title track is particularly well-suited.

Great Voice Needs Better Songs

Created: 05/02/07
Yes, he still has the great voice, but the song selection is questionable. Why in the world would he cover, It's A Heartache, which was a bad Rod imitation as done by Bonnie Tyler? Still The Same is not even a good Bob Seger song. Even on the better songs, Fogerty's Have You Ever Seen The Rain and Bread's Everything I Own, pedestrian arrangements ensure nothing special happens. The Eagles' Best Of My Love and Badfinger's Day After Day are listenable, along with Fooled Around And Fell In Love. Remember when each of Rod's albums had a couple of great cover songs? I suggest you make a compilation disc of those tracks (Dylan's You've Been On My Mind, Temptations' I'm Losing You, Luther Ingram's If Loving You Is Wrong, etc.) and enjoy. Here you get the great voice, but that's all.

Rod Stewart- Still The Same:Great Rock Classics CD

Created: 09/01/09
This Album shows that Rod Stewart has not lost The "it" factor with age. He is still one of the best entertainers and vocalists of all time. The album is excellent!!! The only choice I felt was a bit to feminine for his voice was the song "I'll Stand by You". I would have prefered a more powerful ROCK song. I am hoping he comes out with a non-cover album soon. I miss "his" music. Maybe if he got together with one of his old "bandmates" (Faces) he could co-write some killer tunes. Great album though!

The best cd Rod Stewart has done for awhile. There are so many good songs on it and he can sing them like no one else. My favorite is Missing you I had only liked John Waite's version but this one is great.

You just can't beat the oldies like rod stewart!

many of the younger set are now rediscovering the music from the 70' and 80's, and realizing that all their hi-tech or rap or whatever just can't measure up to good old oldies like rod stewart! If you really like good tunes, you can't go without some of rod stewarts classics. he's been in my collection for many yrs. and will continue to be for many more.
