John Tucker Must Die (DVD, 2006, Dual Side)

Arielle Kebbel, Jesse Metcalfe|Theatrical release: 2006|Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe) is a high school basketball star dating three different girls at the same time: the activist vegan (Sophia Bush), the over-achieving blonde journalist (Arielle Kebbel), and the sassy cheerleading squad captain (Ashanti). They all find out about each other and with the help of the shy new girl in school, Kate (Brittany Snow), they plot a devious revenge. After various other plots fail (such as spiking his protein powder with estrogen), the girls decide to combine their knowledge to make Kate into the perfect seduction machine and break Tucker's heart. In classic DANGEROUS LIAISONS/CRUEL INTENTIONS style, Kate becomes the talk of the school, but may end up becoming everything she used to hate. It's an amalgam of patented teen comedy formulas, but director Betty Thomas (BRING IT ON, 28 DAYS) keeps the story jumping along in fine order: no pop song montages of trying on different outfits, no soap opera angst and no parental moralizing. It's all chocolate, bra-cams, basketball games, food fights, and a wealth of quotable put-downs. The cast are lovely to look at, and Metcalfe makes a perfect Tucker, a character who--to the movie's credit--is not as bad as all that. Penn Bagdley quietly steals some scenes as John's less popular brother, a music snob/slacker who falls for Kate while assisting her in science experiments. MTV alum Jenny McCarthy is in fine form as Kate's hot mom, cursed with her own weakness for smooth talking men.

Good Teenage Movie

Created: 04/12/06
Three teenagers two-timed by a local lothario decide to turn the tables on him in this romantic comedy. John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe) is the big man on campus at his high school -- he's the captain and star player of the basketball team, he's got money, he's good-looking and charming, and he can have any girl he wants. However, the latter attribute is about to get him in serious trouble when three different girls at his school -- Heather (Ashanti), Beth (Sophia Bush) and Carrie (Arielle Kebbel) -- discover they've all been dating John at the same time. Determined to bring down the campus ladykiller, the girls devise a plan -- they pick a cute but socially clumsy girl who is new at school, Kate (Brittany Snow), and give her a crash course in stealing John's heart.

Jessie Metcalfe is John Tucker...Ouch!

Created: 01/12/06
Jessie Metcalfe tries real hard to save this bland teen movie with the typical teen angst.
John Tucker(Metcalfe)looks good and all the popular girls in school love him , date him and hate him after he plays them like a worn out banjo.
Revenge is sweet as Kate the nerdy girl turned sexy siren tries to break John Tucker's Heart with the help of the Tree hugger, the Cheerleader and the Over-achiever Girl. (All 3 girls dated him at the same time)
Jenny McCarthy plays Kate's mom and she actually holds her own her in her few dramatic scenes. Kate played by Brittany Snow, looks like the long lost third Olsen Twin/Triplet but her acting chops are better than most of the other pseudo-teenage actors in this flick.
All and All, the only reason to really watch this movie may be to see Jessie in his Victoria Secret thong. Ouch! Jessie plays John Tucker very well....perhaps art is imitating real life. Oh Yeah.... and another reason to watch this DVD, is all the hot chicks, I wouldn't want to forgot that. Sadly, it's the Breakfast Club on Crack....

A Nice Teenage Movie

Created: 08/03/08
John Tucker Must Die is a nice light comedy to watch on a Saturday Morning. This movie is based around the idea of the High School basketball star who can have any girl that he wants. He usually has two or three on the side.

The comedy takes off with John's three current girlfriends figuring out that the are each dating John. All the girls then decide to work with another girl to break John's heart.

As the movie moves on you get to see John learn a bunch of life lessons. Kate (his current girl conquest) learns who she really is and the three X girlfriends learn about themselves.

There are a number of great laughs, lessons, and jokes through out this movie. It is a fun way to relax.

4/5

Teenagers might find it to be a 5/5. ;)

A decent chick flick that had it's moments.

Created: 20/11/06
John Tucker Must Die (2006)

Simply put, another teen movie. It has all the heartbreak, romance, laughs, and lessons that we all saw in She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, and so on... It's got everything all the above movies had and not much more. But that's ok because it's still a fun film!

This movie was decent, it won't win any awards but it had it's moments. My girlfriend really enjoyed it, I on the other hand found myself dozing off halfway through. It's true, a movie full of eye-candy couldn't hold my attention for longer than 40 minutes.

I actually had to take a break and clear my head to finish this movie. Thank god for DVD, if I had seen this movie in theatre I probably would've walked out.

Final Verdict:

His Verdict: 2/5 (Due to the collection of extreme hollywood hotties)
Her Verdict: 3.5/5 (A chick flick that makes you laugh)

Combined score: 3/5 (I upped the 3.5 to a four to make the grading easier)

Rent or Buy: Guys, unless you're a big Arielle Kebbel fan, this one is just a rental.

I don't really know how this movie is supposed to make me feel. It's just another teen movie. Like we don't have enough. It has its funny moments. Maybe its just not me. The DVD includes theatrical and extended version. I only saw theatrical version. Maybe the extended version has more to offer.

On the box: When three gorgeous gals discover they've all been duped by smooth-talking stud John Tucker, they hatch a devious revenge scheme to turn the table on him. Now Tucker is going to have to change his ways..or the school jock will soon become the class joke.
