Movie synopsis

A star-studded cast provides the voices for the prehistoric creatures in this computer-animated feature set 20,000 years ago as the Ice Age approaches. Seemingly anti-social Manny, a woolly mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano), acts as if he just wants to be left alone. When he meets Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo), a sloth, the two become unlikely traveling companions. The plot thickens when the duo finds a human infant and decides to try to return the child to its "herd." Manny slowly but surely reveals his heart of gold, while Sid continues to provide comic relief. Diego (voiced by Denis Leary), a saber-tooth tiger with ulterior motives, soon joins them in their search for the humans. Ultimately, this group of misfits becomes its own herd, learning about friendship and loyalty as they brave snow, ice, freezing temperatures, predators, hail, and even boiling lava pits. All the while, a saber-tooth squirrel, Scat, provides comic relief as he valiantly struggles with an acorn. A well-written, humorous script and endearing characters mesh well with the state-of-the-art technology and effects. Other stars lending their voices to the feature include Goran Visnjic, Jack Black, and Jane Krakowski.

Ice Age, on Blu-ray Disc

Created: 04/04/08
If you go forward a few million years from where “Dinosaurs” left off, you’ll end up on the towering glaciers and the frigid tundras of “Ice Age”. With the reliable state-of-the-art graphics that we have come to expect, “Ice Age” brings with it an amazing peak into a bygone era of environmental transition and mass extinction. With a bunch of wacky, funny and wisecracking animals, this new gang of kids characters will surely make anyone forget the severity of nature’s cruelty.

“Ice Age” opens with a huge migration of every living thing that could possibly walk, crawl or fly. As the global temperature slowly gets colder, early ancestors of modern day animals find themselves heading for warmer climates. However, a few do linger around and we meet the ones who are left behind.

Powerful and stoic, Manfred the Mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano) unintentionally saves the life of a weak doofus sloth named Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo) from the crushing tramples of two rhinoceros. Deliberately left behind by his family, the ostracized Sid uses the idea of owing his life to Manfred as an excuse of tagging along with his newly found “buddy”.“Ice Age” is a great movie for the kids to watch for it values the importance of friendship, trust and the sense of belonging. The satire and jokes keep adults entertained as well.

I also have to mention primordial squirrel named Scrat, that has a recurring cameos all throughout the movie. His unceasing attempts to keep collecting acorns in his possession add to the comedic impetus!

Might I say the detail on Blu-Ray is superb! A fun film for for a "movie night" to enjoy with family or friends.
