Album Notes
Angels & Airwaves: Matt Watcher, David Kennedy, Tom DeLonge, Atom Willard.Additional personnel: Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. (keyboards); Critter (percussion, sound effects).Abandoning his former band's jokey pop-punk for a sound made up of equal parts post-punk grandeur and new wave shimmer, Blink-182's Tom Delonge started Angels and Airwaves with the mission to make music that was as big and important as U2 or Echo and the Bunnymen. He's one step closer with the impressive new I-EMPIRE.Opener "Call to Arms" is just that: a huge, arena-filling mission statement that combines airy, dissonant guitars with an upright, marching back beat. Delonge's voice, once a weak link, has grown more confident and less adolescent. He's able to handle sun-dappled ballads like "Breathe" as easily as harder-rocking stuff like "Secret Crowds." "Rite of Spring" reminisces about a childhood saved by joining a band, revealing a tender side that Delonge rarely indulged during Blink's tenure at the top of the punk-pop heap. The freedom of a new project resonates throughout the album, with Delonge and his bandmates reaching far outside of their box to make music that they hope will really matter for people. It's an admirable goal, and the band seems up to the challenge.

Editorial Reviews
The band have a sense of control over the music that is at times anthemic.....Powered by a sense of mood...

I-Empire by Angels and Airwaves

I love this CD! I mean, it's not as great as blink-182's old music in my opinion, but Tom De Longe (from blink-182) still can rock! I especially love the first two tracks, Call To Arms and Everything's Magic. This CD is WAY better than their first CD; the beats, the chords, the lyrics, the everything just rocks harder! If you like music, you should buy this CD (or at least go to Angels and Airwaves myspace and listen to their music=).

Another great one from A&A

Much like the first disc, "We Don't Need to Whisper", I was mezmerized by this one also. It's like a rock symphony that takes you on a musical ride to a place in a dream. From start to finish the music is amazing and never loses your attention. I really like the sound they put out. I am a Blink 182 fan and you can hear a slight influence but really very different and unique and a new sound all it's own. They are a very talented band and this is a really good listen.

I-Empire

This is an interesting CD, even more of a departure than We Don't Need To Whisper. The lyrics are good, the songwriting is outstanding, and the overall quality is excellent. Don't buy this expecting to hear the same blink-182 punk rock sound, this is much more advanced in terms of the lyrics and tempo. The vocals themselves are a departure, as Tom expirements with a wider range than ever before. I highly recommend this CD to any music fan, and any Tom Delonge fan!

Something different from Blink-182

Created: 08/08/09
The album is enjoyable from beginning to end! Good sound, something different for Tom from Blink-182's past albums, with creative guitar riffs and emotional vocals. With help from the band, including 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt, the band comes together with different sounds to make great music and a good album to boot. Pick it up!
