Movie synopsis

David Ayer, who wrote TRAINING DAY, gives us another unflinching look at disillusionment and questionable decision-making within the ranks of the LAPD. Ayer's second directorial effort tells the story of burnt-out Tom Ludlow (Keanu Reeves), a functioning alcoholic and undisciplined detective with the Special Vice Unit. While so much of this characterization appears resonatingly familiar at first, we soon learn that the character here has been tweaked. While this loose cannon in no way does things by the book, he is also far from playing by his own rules. Ludlow is relied upon by the other detectives in the unit, and by their almost maniacally ambitious Captain Wander (Forest Whitaker), to go outside the law whenever needed. The infractions he is pressured to commit are quickly and uncomplainingly covered up by Captain Wander, while Ludlow and the rest of Special Vice receive accolades for their high clearance rate. Not until one of these cover-ups leads to the brutal murder of his ex-partner (Terry Crews) does Ludlow try to dispel the apathy (and the vodka fumes) clouding his purpose. This procedural melodrama is almost completely internalized within the LAPD, as Vice cops investigate Narcotics cops, who snitch on Homicide cops, and no one talks to Internal Affairs, etc. Crimes are staged, executed, and pinned firmly on suspects with alarming efficiency as the necessary DNA, murder weapons, and fingerprints are then sprinkled around the scenes after the fact.A study in familiar elements slightly skewed, STREET KINGS provides a satisfying dose of bright, loud, violent police work blended with the right amount of discreetly passed interoffice envelopes to keep the taut intrigue in step with the body count. Little time is wasted on exposition, and the audience's ability to extrapolate is given a great deal of credit as Ludlow's dead wife, substance abuse, and past career troubles are flashed at us briefly, then put away in favor of the crisis at hand.

Street Kings (DVD)

Street Kings is a movie is a movie that drives you from euphoria to deception in an hour and a half. A police thriller full of action, drama and suspense. The story about Tom Ludlow, a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he's been a part of his entire career, ultimately leading him to question the loyalties of everyone around him, is interesting but a little predictable, with some loose ends and with a lack of a closure at the end. The cast is really good, all-star actors (Reeves, Whitaker, Laurie, Chris Evans and Jay Mohr) but I feel some of the performances kinda weak. Keanu was good but with not the enough power the character needed. Forest as always excellent as the corrupt police chief, Hugh Laurie was amazing although at some moments his character reminded me to House because if his ironic way of talking. To conclude, its a movie that could offer a lot more than it gives. If you liked Training Day you will like this Movie

This city of LA is full of crime, lies, conspiracry & murder.
Tom Ludlow is one cop who thinks he is indestructable. When 2 twin girls have gone missing the pressure on the cops to find the girls is on.Tom plays by his own rules, where no ordinary cop will go in order to rescue the girls from some korean men on a bad side of town.Once the girls are found his district gets all the glory for rescuing them. His captain Jack Wander praises him, and keeps sending him on different cases. When his ex-parter Washington doesn't agree with the way he does things he lets it be known. But when a convient store robbery men kill Washington, Tom will stop at nothing to find these men.But what he finds he may wish he hasn't.Once evidence implicates him in a murder of a fellow officer, he is now the new target of a corrupt police department. Can he stay alive long enough to open his eyes to whats going on around him before it's too late??
This was a good movie, with great actors.A lot of action, but also a lot of killing, guns, blood & profanity.Would recommend to rent.Hope this helps you decide! Please click YES at the bottom. Thanks for taking the time to read this. :)

Corrupt LAPD.....Say it ain't so.

Created: 06/08/08
They rule the streets - they are the Street Kings. This movie has really made a pleasant change and one that is for the better - a good action and thriller genre movie which cannot be missed by those who like to watch such movies.

A Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer, who has lost his wife, finds it very difficult to navigate his life. But then, one night he is on a mission to save two Korean children who have been missing. The mission is a success and he is named a hero. But then his ex - partner comes up against him and he decides to follow him when he is killed in an armed robbery. This forces him to go against the so - called "cop" culture" and he begins to question loyalties of everyone around him.

Written by James Elleroy and Kurt Wimmer, the movie stars Keanu Reeves, Forrest Whittaker, and Hugh Laurie and is directed by David Ayer.

Its good to see Keanu Reeves back in action along with Forrest Whittaker, who is remembered for his role as Idi Amin in "The Last King of Scotland." This movie has brought back the nostalgic times of watching good action and thriller movies regarding "cops" and one which has action from the very beginning till the end and is able to keep you glued to the screen. Yes! It does have a lot of swearing and a lot of blood but that is a part of this movie. But never the less it is a movie that is worth while watching.

Street Kings

I purchased Street Kings after a trailer I watched on another movie. This movie start Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker, 2 actors I enjoy watching very much. Street Kings puts Reeves as a total good cop against Whitaker a corrupt cop as a seemingly good cop. There is a lot of drama and action and some surprises.

The plot is one that has been done before, that much is not new to me. Reeves character is one he's done before as well. I was surprised that Whitaker turned out to be not as honest as he leads a person to believe during the movie. Given the fact that Reeves is in this movie I already knew that his character would not die at the end but it did surprise me that, again at the end, there was no lead into a sequel as there is in so many of his other movies.

The movie is worth while watching if you like either Reeves or Whitaker but it is not one that you cannot stop watching. It is not the best work of either actor but it is not the worst work. For people who like the continuous drama it's a good movie but predictable. On a scale of 1 to 5 this would be slightly above a 3. I liked it but it would not be a movie I could watch over and over again.

Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) stars in this movie of a Los Angeles
detective who is still reeling from the death of his wife, and
finds himself in a major problem when he is named as a suspect
in the murder of his partner. With the help of a young detective
(Chris Evans), Reeves struggles to clear his name. His boss
(Forest Whitaker) meanwhile, tries to protect him from a tough
Internal Affairs investigator (Hugh Laurie) who is determined
to put Ludlow behind bars. Great movie-and good suspenseful
and exciting ending.
