Perfect Film For Jack Black to Show His Comedic Ways!
Created: 20/03/10
Thanks to the creative minds of Harold Ramis, Gene Stupnitsky, and Lee Eisenberg, we have an unforgettable comedy that will always be fun to watch.
Zed (Jack Black) is a prehistoric hunter that just doesn't have all his brains together. He tries hard as a would-be hunter but seems to be missing out on the good things in life. Accompanied by his friend Oh (Michael Cera), an extremely shy maker/gatherer, Zed takes it upon himself to eat the forbidden fruit of knowledge. When his tribe finds out, Zed is banished out into the wilderness with only his friend Oh. Eema (Juno Temple) seems to be the likely girlfriend for Oh although she doesn't know it for most the film. Zed's girlfriend is Maya (June Diane Raphael). The caveman Marlak (Matthew Willig) seems to be the toughest of them all.
We must not, at all, take a bit of this film seriously, since it is supposed to be an entertaining comedy. Some of the situational one liners are extremely sexually motivated, but then again, how in the world can you tell a story about the ridiculous past unless you throw some of this sexually repressed comedy in for shock content. We seldom if ever get a chance to see orthodox religion and comedy coexist comfortably, however, we have to realize that Almighty GOD must actually have a sense of humor to tell so many different tales through the Bible. Here the script writers poke fun of sacrificial ceremonies, the Hebrew practice of circumcision, paganism, slavery, sodomy, hedonism, and many others. The unrated version is a bit more rank at times, but not by much. Being totally irreverent in certain places seems extremely cute for the cutesy crowd, but they take the LORD seriously by showing Cain get struck by lightning.
As they travel on their journey, they come across Cain and Abel. After a while Cain kills Abel and tries to minimize his involvement in his death. Zed and Oh are invited to spend the night by Cain's dad. The next day Zed stumbles across Abraham and somehow stops him from killing Isaac. They soon get trapped with the people of their cave-man clan and become trapped slaves in a cage and reach the city of Sodom where their tribe is now enslaved. Zed and Oh are determined to rescue the women they love, Maya and Eema. Standing in their way is Sodom's high priest and the omnipresent Cain. Zed tries to form an alliance with Princess Innana (Olivia Wilde), which may backfire.
David Cross was so hilarious as Cain, the script writers must have thought it would have been totally stupid to dump his character at the first of the film, so they just kept on going with it. It's probably because Evan Almighty of 2007 bombed at the box-office so the biblical character of Noah (who was to be played by Stanley Tucci) was totally cut from the script. Of course we can't talk about David without mentioning his counterpart Paul Rudd who plays a very short role as Abel. Sorry you weren't even credited for getting your skull bashed in.
Hank Azaria will not be easily forgotten for his role as Abraham here, although he probably will quicker for his role in Night at the Museum:Battle at the Smithsonian. Oliver Platt plays the corrupt High Priest with extreme believability. Gabriel Sunday plays a neurotic Seth. Vinnie Jones plays Sargon.
A famous prop is the film is the spotted multi-horned sheep in the film which is an endangered species known as Jacob Sheep is believed to have been around as far back as the biblical days of the 12 tribe of Israel.

YEAR ONE - A Funny Comedy
Created: 07/10/09
Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters) produced this comedy staring Jack Black (Be Kind Rewind) as Zed and Michael Cera (Superbad & Juno) as Oh.
Zed is not satisfied with this life in the tribe and is determined to make something more of his life than the everyday 'hunting and gathering' that takes place. Oh is the smartest member of the tribe but is treated badly because of his lack of other skills. After tasting the forbidden fruit, Zed and Oh set off on a journey of discovery that leads to many funny and interesting situation.
Black and Cera are an interesting team in this movie and there are some very funny moments, and there are also some very crude moments.
The movie made me laugh out loud at times and was a lot of fun to watch.
Get this one if your a Jack Black fan.

I AM NOT A JACK BLACK FAN, but this movie was the absolute best one I've seen all year! The dry sarcastic sense of humor is dialogued so uniquely that it is great to catch the little zingers and comments that most do not catch. Absolutly hilarious, witty, and the main stars have amazing on screen duality of a love/hate relationship.
Prepare your ab muscles for a workout!
