Movie synopsis

Controversial rapper Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) makes his big screen debut with 8 MILE, a bracing drama directed by the increasingly audacious Curtis Hanson. Set in 1995 in the bleak, urban battle zone of Detroit, the film follows the struggles of a young man who is desperate to make a better life for himself. Jimmy Smith, Jr., better known as Rabbit, is destined for a life of squalor. Living in a cramped trailer with his deadbeat mom (Kim Basinger), Rabbit works in a factory to make ends meet. His only outlet is hip-hop. Possessing a talent for freestyle rapping, Rabbit still hasn't managed to unleash his true potential. But his best friend, Future (Mekhi Phifer), is determined to make that happen. Future forces Rabbit to enter a freestyle battle that he blew the week before, giving him another chance at redemption. Hanson's stellar portrait of lower-class urban disillusionment, shot with uncompromisingly gritty realism by Rodrigo Prieto, proves that the issue is no longer about race, it's about money. Eminem delivers a bold performance as the troubled youngster who is still trying to find his place in a harsh, cruel world.

Lose Yourself in This Movie

Created: 26/09/06
This movie presents a hardcore, real-life account that will open your eyes to the prices that are paid for fame.

Even if you don't care for Marshall Mathers' (a.k.a. Eminem) music, his break-through movie qualifies as one of the best dramatic, true-to-life flicks you'll see. It's especially eye-opening for those of us who don't live near a metropolis and never really see people living and dealing with poverty like the main character, Jimmy "Rabbitt", does in this movie. Other than being a darn good drama, this movie serves as a reminder as to just how hard some people have to work to make it in this world.

Jimmy Smith has been born and raised in a poor lifestyle in inner-city Detroit. He battles with his dependent mother, her young, hot-headed boyfriend, his job, and his friends, all while aspiring to be a famous white rapper in a predominately black atmosphere. Along the way to his dreamed stardom, he faces problems with girls and friends, strong competition, and his own self-confidence problems. Because this movie mirrors the life of it's main actor, Eminem, the viewer has the opportunity to be touched by the real life account in a way that few other movies presents.

Buy or see this movie if you want to be entertained by a dramatic, true to life account of one of the most controversial rappers. But you may want to think twice if profanity bothers you.

Eminem stars as B-Rabbit, an aspiring rapper from the wrong side of Detroit's 8 Mile, whose ambition is to secure a recording deal. B-Rabbit has many problems to deal with. He dumps his girlfriend when she tells him she's pregnant, and moves back into the trailer where his alcoholic mother lives with her rather unpleasant boyfriend. He takes a dead-end job, trying to save enough money to make a demo tape, but the rapping isn't going well - he chokes in a local rap battle, making himself easy prey for the other rappers.

eminem's big screen debut

Created: 12/11/08
for all of you who are not familiar with the controversial rapper named "eminem" a.k.a slim shady, he is a white rapper that appered on the rap scene in 1999. his wordplay and imagery in his rhymes have propelled him into the top of the charts and industry as a great lyricist. it seems that he cant do any wrong since his first movie is a very good one. it has many elements of his life entangled in it, although it isnt really about his life. it takes place in detroit during the early 90's where most of the dark and gritty type of rap music flourished. his main caharacter has to find a way out of his ugly enviorment and thinks that his skills as a rapper can do it. the movie has alot of spirit, emotion, surprises and talent in it and i reccomend it to any fan of eminem or rap alike.

Eminem movie breakthrough

Created: 01/03/11
Somewhat autobiographical, this movie was a breakthrough for Eminem. His acting is believable and his skills are on point. Story of a no-name rapper making it in the underground circuit with dreams of making it big. Well acted by the late Britney Murphy and Kim Bassinger, both playing "white trash" to the fullest. The soundtrack is awesome for the time period. Overall, recommended to a mature audience. (Lots of language use and sexual content)

great movie loved it good transaction

I love Eminem and haven't seen this movie since it came out so decided to purchase it. Any movie he makes I will be sure to purchase and hopefully ebay will have it to buy. It was really touching and you get to see inside this rapper and what makes him tick. He had such a hard upbringing but he is a determined guy and has overcome many challenges to become the biggest rapper today. I think many people could somehow relate to him and after watching this movie you gain a new respect for him and his music. I never liked rap before watching this film and actually listening to his music and realizing it was his life story that he sings about. I am definetly a huge fan now. I hope he continues to succeed and stay free from his inner demons.
