90 Minutes in Heaven: A True Story of Life And Death by Cecil Murphey and Don Piper (2006, Unabridged, Compact Disc)

With a chronically ill spouse and daddy, my children and I face almost daily that we will not have our loved one long-term. I ordered “90 Minutes in Heaven” by Don Piper and Cecil Murphey because it had been a bestseller for so long and I was curious. We needed the encouragement—even if it was but a glimpse—of eternity. While dead for 90 minutes, Don Piper experienced heaven in that time period. What better reassurance could my children have?

Don’s story provided monumental peace in our hearts and pointed us all back to the scriptures that speak of hope, joy and eternity with our Savior. To hear first-hand that heaven is everything God describes and more, to understand the role loved ones play in welcome, to read about the joy of hearing the heavenly hosts-all of this makes for an almost-indescribable reading experience of pure joy, and most of all, hope.

This book has been more healing for me than any of the medical treatments, reassurance from doctors, or medications. More encouraging than any wisdom given from the pulpit or from the trenches of other people who have been affected by illness, pain and disability. We read this story with frequent, healing tears coursing down our cheeks and have read it since a couple of times.
Don’s story is a poignant and emotional reminder that all we've been through is pushing us towards heaven and an eternity with our Creator. To a world where suddenly everything seemingly so vital here is not only unimportant, but truly becomes nonexistent. To a world where strength reigns and sickness disappears. Where we will once again see, touch and talk to the people who have gone before us. But most of all, to a world where we will meet our Savior with a rush of joy that nothing can abate.

Further into the book, Don shares his journey of recovery and ongoing chronic pain now that he has returned from heaven’s glory. Although I didn’t realize that this part of the story was included in “90 Minutes”, I remain grateful. Both my husband and I have chronic pain conditions and we also work to raise the awareness of chronic pain and its de-habilitating repercussions. Don’s experience—more difficult, heart-wrenching and physically painful than many of us will ever experience—is worth it all to him now because someday he will stand again at the gates of heaven and feel the completeness of finally coming home.

We may not experience victory here on earth. In fact, God often warns us that we will not and I have learned to not expect this. But I wonder if the message in Romans 8:35-39 is not speaking of victory here on earth—but of the eternal victory that we are promised?

Second to the Bible, there is no greater reassurance than "90 Minutes in Heaven".

We had gotten it previously at the library, but we wanted MORE TIME to listen !!
This man tells his story simply, and believably. Heaven is a REAL PLACE and we hear so little about it!
What a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE Mr. Piper had despite the horrible accident!
If you are at ALL interested in Heaven, I suggest you listen to it, or read it.

Excellent true story written by a Pastor. Gives us a true glimpse of heaven and what our eternal life will be like. Great for anyone that has lost a loved one, or for anyone that may be searching for the Truth, or all you doubting Thomas's.

Very well written and read book. Inspirational for those of us who need that extra push to get through life. Especially great for anyone who is suffering recovery from a horrible trauma or terminal illness. You don't have any faith? This piece of literature will lead you back to God by the hand of Jesus, which we all need in today's world.

I bought this CD as a few of my friends who read the book and listened to the CD recommended it to me. This was a very interesting CD to listen to. I enjoyed all of what I heard and in a way it kind of makes death a lot less frightening if you are not a skeptic (as my husband is) of what did happen in "90 minutes in Heaven". I think that, for somebody who has just lost a loved one, this would be very powerful and helpful in getting past the grieving.
