Adds fast, efficient Intel Core i5, i7 processors, new Nvidia graphics, seamless switching between integrated, discrete GPUs...

At the top end of the price scale; still no HDMI, Blu-ray, or other high-end options.

Apple's 13.3-inch MacBook Pro keeps the same look and feel, but offers major internal changes, including an optional Intel Core i7 CPU, making it a very serious portable powerhouse.

Best Entry Level - Apple MacBook Pro - The Best!

Created: 26/12/10
The Apple MacBook Pro Series has been around for the past several years. I have used the machines when they were first introduced on the market. This is the one of the new Apple MacBook Pro Unibody designed Macs. The system works great and the powerful Apple hardware allows this machine to last for the long haul.

The Apple MacBook Pro Machine is powerful, fast, elegant, and can handle everything that you throw at it. The machine has a cutting edge processor, great hard drive space, excellent RAM performance, built-in wireless and bluetooth, as well as a DVD Burner. The MacBook Pro Series also comes with Apple's built-in WebCam called iSight. This allows for video conferencing through AIM, Skype, or just augmented picture taking fun. The battery life on this model is extremely long between eight and nine hours depending on screen brightness and other system related software that are running.

The software that comes on the machine is Apple's OS X. The system is extremely stable and the auto-update feature is great as it alerts you when new updates are available for your Apple System. In addition, a software suite called iLife which includes iMove (to create movies), iDVD (to make DVD discs), iWeb (Create Custom Websites that can be published on the Apple MobileME Service), and iPhoto (to edit and catalog / view photos) standard with every Apple Computer you purchase. Each of these program run very well and can help any home user create professional looking media.

Please note that one application suite that the Macintosh does not come with is the Microsoft Office 2008 Suite. It does not have Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Entourage Standard. You must purchase this suite from Apple as an add-on, Microsoft, Staples, or any other retailer who sells the software.

Overall, when the next generation Apple MacBook Pro comes out I would most likely purchase the computer again. The machine has a great design, easily gets through any tasks such as Internet Browser, making a Hollywood Movie, Office Productivity, and much much more. On the side of the unit it has ample USB ports, monitor out, audio out, and ethernet. The machine is thin and light weight and the all-in-one design is great. However, should the machine fall or crack due to the uni-body design the whole base would have to be replaced in turn costing a lot of money.

I would recommend an Apple Computer to anyone the Virus Free Unix Based Platform is strong, reliable, and easy to use. You cannot go wrong purchasing one of these machines and on top of that you can even run Windows or Linux on them through boot-camp, VMware Fusion, or Parallels. The premium on price is definitely worth the money. This series MacBook comes with Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.4 GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.66 either model is great. The faster one will help you make the movie faster and offer you a larger hard drive.

Once you have your Mac you will not go back to PC - enjoy the simple life.

The new MacBook Pro

Created: 08/08/10
The Unibody design has been out for about two years now. Formerly the Unibody MacBook, Apple has done little to mac improvements for the new MacBook Pro. These are great computers, please don't get me wrong. They have the ability to run windows and offer a larger hard drive to store information, but the only improvements apple has made in contrast from going from Unibody MacBook, to Unibody MacBook Pro is they have added an SD card slot and 2 more GB of RAM. The graphics display has only changed manufacturers, but still offers 256MB (pretty much all Apple laptops and desktops start at this configuration).

Apple, as you know, makes excellent computers. They need to improve the chipset and go from intel core 2 duo to an affordable i3 processor. This would not only increase sales for the company, but offer the consumer a better bang for the buck.

When seeking out a robust laptop that was family tough, I saw the MacBook Pro as the best value. Sure it cost more up front, but I value my time and sanity more than the minor cost difference between it and a comparable Windows laptop.
From a hardware perspective, simple things like the chassis being a heat sink instead of using a fan to cool the processor and the power cord being held on by a magnet are awesome. Both mean that I have two less failure modes to worry about. No more animal fur in the cooling fan or power cords wrapping around peoples ankles and crashing the laptop to the ground. The backlit keyboard is also amazing as it means we can use the laptop in low-light situations and still be able to find the keys. These are small design features but each one adds to my peace of mind.

From the software perspective, my non-tech family members can do everything they want in a simple and intuitive way without needing me to work out every minor issue that would pop up with the other computers we have owned. Virus check this, Defrag drive that, "I'm sorry Dave but I can't do that right now". Since giving it to my daughter, I have not had a single "tech request" for normal things. She has even figured out how to use the Time Machine feature to back up her machine and restore deleted files after I made space on our Linux server for the Time Machine image. How many teenagers back up their hard drives? How many of those are not nerds? Apple's programmers have made the complex so simple, you don't have to have an engineering degree to set everything up. As another example, setting up our household network office printer with copier and fax was so easy it felt like it was done before I even started. The mac found the printer on the network once I let it know I there was a printer out there to use and configured it correctly without me having to do anything. At least if felt like I didn't have to do anything because I can't remember any of the required steps. It was actually kind of spooky how easy it was. In windows, I always had to load the driver CD, go through a 1 hour configuration on the driver and keep reminding the computer that the printer was really on the network and not attached to the USB port. Then the computer would always "forget" where it left the printer and then fill up the print spool instead of sending the print jobs to the printer. Of course my spouse's solution for that was to simply keep "printing" til the print spool was overwhelmed and then wonder why so many copies would pour out of the printer later in the day.

Pleasantly Surprised

This is my first mac notebook. I bought a mac mini last year and just love it. I ended up hooking it to the television as a home theater PC and found myself in need of a computer at times when the mac mini was acting as TV. I was upgrading from a 2004 dell laptop to this and I'm just noticing some things that I'd like to point out if you have never had a mac laptop.
Built in webcam that acts as an ambient light sensor when it gets brighter/darker in the room. Backlit keys.

Touchpad/trackpad gestures that can be real time savers compared to a full keyboard (& i am a keyboard fanatic)
I have not messed with it yet, but I think you can talk to a macbook too and it will launch applications or do things (my friends do that)
The magsafe power adapter is like a magnet connection so if you kick the cord you won't break anything, it will just pop out.

Overall, I like it. It's fairly light. I wanted something light with good battery life. I knew I was happy with the graphics card on the mini so I shouldn't be let down here either since this is an improvement on that. I have to question whether I will use the cd drive very much, but I guess it's cool if I need to rip a cd to iTunes. When I had this on today at work next to my dell and external monitor I could only notice how dingy/brown their screens look in comparison. The colors on this screen are really great. The keyboard has a nice tactile feel to it as well, I really never miss a beat with this thing. The firewire connection was useful to transfer my settings from the mac mini as well.

The Best Laptop

Created: 09/12/10
The 13.3" MacBook Pro (MC374LL/A) is the best Macbook overall because it offers what most Mac users are looking for -- plenty of power, a sleek, lightweight design, and a compelling software package at a reasonable price. The latest version offers much improved specs over last year's model, packing a 2.4Ghz Core 2 processor, 4GB of DDR3 ram for multitasking, a 250GB Hard Drive, and NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics. It's a great all-around machine that's ideal for college students and everyday use, while still providing plenty of power for multimedia-intensive tasks and applications. The sleek case is lightweight, durable, and small enough to be carried anywhere you go. The MacBook Pro also includes iLife 09 for working with media content. If you need more computing power, step up to the MB991LL/A for a 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of DDR3 Ram, and a 250GB hard drive.
