Movie synopsis

David Niven is perfect as an imperturbable English gentleman who attempts to win a bet by circumnavigating the globe in 80 days. The Jules Verne story, 100 locations, 40 cameo appearances by Hollywood players, a Victor Young score, and S.J. Perelman among the writers guarantee delightful family fare. The beginning of the film features a prologue by Edward R. Murrow, the esteemed television journalist, and it includes the first film to be based on a Jules Verne novel, Georges Melies's A TRIP TO THE MOON from 1902.

I remember when this movie was first released and all the Bally who that proceeded the Movie. It was one of those times when I felt a movie lived up to it's Hype. Micheal Todd was a master and was able to Con so many stars to contribute their talents for simply scale as he termed their parts as Cameo parts. Something that has remained in Hollywood since that time. Such a movie only seems to come along once in a lifetime.
The movie has a timeless quality to it as it continues to please people from every generation.
Micheal Todd has a record that has never been equaled and probably never will.He made one movie and won the academy award. How can anyone equal that record? Not to mention he also won the hand of Elizabeth Taylor.
This was Showmanship to the highest pinnacle of fame.
It may be a rather long movie but it is never boring and bears the ravages of time very well. Placing this movie in your library guarantees that it will be played with regularity.
WELL DONE MICHEAL TODD.

A must Jules Verne read.

I am an avid jules verne collecter. I buy all his books. I have also seen every movie based off of a jules verne novel, even if they dont take credit for it. Phileas Fogg accepts a wager that he can't travel around the world in eighty days, but it looks like trouble when Fix trails him, believing him to be a suspected gentleman thief.
Note: In some books and cartoons/comics, the main character is incorrectly called Phineas Fogg. The correct name for the main character of this book is Phileas Fogg.

Timeframe of novel: Events take place between October and December 1872

This is a truly collectors' item. Although I already have a DVD of the same title with me for a long time (I live in Bangkok, Thailand and the DVD was acquired locally) I was buying this item with no hestitation when I saw that there was "Two - Disc Special Edition" on its cover. I was hoping for "Special Features" on extra disk in the set and my guess has not upset me as there are handful of Mike Todd's background and, with addition of Elizabeth Taylor clips, the features fulfill my expectations completely.
Anyhow on the story side, do not let anyone makes you believe that you can enjoy
Thai Royal Barge Procession along the "River of Kings" from the deck of an ocean liner as
the film cinematographer was trying to make it so.
