Co-producing this effort with Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age knob-twister Chris Goss, Auf der Maur ended up with a batch of songs that present heavy-rock undertones wrapped in ethereal nuance. This hard-edged melodicism ranges from the sexually overt "Taste You," with its combination of New Order-like bass and Auf der Maur's Cocteau Twins-esque vocals, to the stoner rock of "Followed the Waves," featuring support from Kyuss stalwarts Josh Homme (also of QOTSA) and drummer Brandt Bjork.Other members of '90s alt-rock royalty checking in on this project are Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson and Smashing Pumpkins string-bender James Iha. Steve Durand and Jordon Zadorozny, mates from Auf der Maur's first band, Tinker, are called in for "Real a Lie," a hook-filled slice of goth originally performed by that group. Leavening these heavier tendencies are the cheeky, sing-songy "I'll Be Anything You Want" and "Overpower Thee," a somber piano ballad that bears the influence of Tom Waits.
