Barbie Mariposa (DVD, 2008)

This is a great Barbie dvd. My daughters just love Barbie movies but this one in particular taught my daughters that the meaning of the word mariposa is actually butterfly in spanish. It prompted them to ask me the meaning of other words in spanish. I decided to buy this movie for my daughters had been wanting it for a long time. They watch Barbie movies before they go to bed. Mariposa is a great movie and I recommend it for any little girl.

My daughter, 2, is very particular about what will hold her interest. So far Barbie and Tinkerbell dvd's are the only thing she asks for and will actually sit and watch and love. These Barbie dvd's always come with bonus features for when she's older like interactive games and such so its a game and dvd in one. I highly recommend this series, and this Mariposa is more active than some other Barbie ones.

I really like all the Barbie movies we own (which isn't all of them, but a good sampling of 6 I think), and I just do not like this one. I mean the story is fine, but the main character isn't "Barbie's" voice like the other movies. The friends she takes on her journey are kind of annoying, and the prince is annoying too. Not my favorite at all and when my daughter wants a Barbie movie I push this one to the bottom of the pile so I don't have to listen to it. I much prefer 12 Dancing Princesses for the pretty singing, Swan Lake for the pretty orchestral music, or Island Princess for the singing, and those all are great stories too.

The Barbie series of movies is harmless fun for the little ones - girls mainly.
The computer graphics are crude but colorful and the characters are clearly and simply defined as either good or evil. Unlike some of the Disney movies, nobody dies... ever! I'm thankful to not have to try to approach this subject to my 4 year old every time she watches a movie! If you have a young daughter(s), give these movies a rental tryout - then I believe you'll be buying them on e-bay too!

This is great movie for your children, a good addition to the series. I, myself, found it to be quite predictable, like all Barbie movies, but my children loved it. The movie teaches friendship, leadership, trust and self worth in an easy to follow storyline. I did like the movie over all. It was a nice story with lovable characters and some mildly scary creatures. It had some funny spots, too. Sometimes things aren't what they seem to be, and sometimes you just need to follow your heart, the typical Barbie story.
