Classic BARNEY MILLER TV Show Season 1
Created: 11/07/09
A great classic police comedy/drama TV show from 1975-82. Capt. Barney Miller & his 12th Precinct Detectives from New York City help keep the crooks off the streets in one of the funniest yet most realistic police series at the time. If you like the old sitcoms from the 1970's & early 80's like All in the Family, Taxi, Alice, Sanford & Son, Three's Company & others, you will enjoy Barney Miller. Season 1 DVD has all 13 episodes. Stars Hal Linden as Capt.Barney, Abe Vigoda as Det.Fish, Max Gail as Det.Wojo, Jack Soo as Det.Yamana, Greg Sierra as Det.Chano & Ron Glass as Det.Harris with Linda Lavin as Det.Wentworth stopping in at the station every now and then. Barney & his motley crue of Detectives prove that crime doesn't pay - but it can be funny.

Barney Miloler is a classic cop show

I had no idea when, as a teenager, that "Barney Miller" was so brilliant. Much of the 70's television was far more ground breaking than anything on Network TV today. BArney Miller is one of the finest works of art to be produced for television in the 20th century. Underrated or not.
It offers a hisatoric look at our culture for the late 70's: the gay low toolerance for gays. Smog and pollution in New York. Sexism. (Way to go Sgt Wentworth!)We can see that both NEw York and times have changed a lot. We're not perfect yet, but it's better now than it was. The 12th precinct was in lower Manhattan, an area now beautiful with Washington Park and NYU students, old men playing chess and the occasional drug deal. The porn shops and hookers are either goned or far more classy.
This is a show that amangeds to make you laugh and manages to make you tear up as well; Hal Linden, Abe Vigoda, Ro Glass, Mas Gail, Linda Lavin,
Jack Soo- these are all people who got their start in classic theatre and you can tell by their work on this show. Many pof them went on to become world class actors (Linda Lavin, Tony Winner tsice pover)And we see Abe Vigoda oin "Wings" in a completely different character but with the same brilliant comic timing he had. Barbara Barrfie joined this show right after her sweeping fame of the gfround breaking Broadway Musical "Company"- a show that changed America, defined New York, relationships and musiocal theatre. The cast is zpectacular.
the writing is top noitch and there';s a small hand of Rheinhold Wedge in there- the man who would leave this show to created "Night Court"
I own three seasons of it and havwe watched it non stop for days now asI recouperate here in bed. It is brilliant. pick it up somewhere here on eBay. I got the three seasons from the same company for less than ten bucks a year. Shipping was only three bucks. So very worth it.

I was so happy when Barney Miller came out on DVD. I never missed the show when I was growing up and though it isn't politically correct with some of the characters of that time it's still a very good show!
