Movie synopsis

A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering Ringo is especially funny, particularly when he is arrested and risks having to miss the broadcast. None of this goes unnoticed by the director of the show, played by Victor Spinetti, who went on to become a recurring cast member in Beatles movies. As the clock ticks away dramatically, our heroes manage to free Ringo from jail and sneak onto the stage in the nick of time, delighted in the knowledge that they have nearly driven the director mad in the process. Arguably the first music video ever made, this faux documentary and its shooting style have been a tremendous influence on nearly every rock and roll feature since.

Nostalgic Fun With The Fab Four

Created: 08/01/11
Entertaining and fun come to mind as you watch this wonderful production with the "Fab Four." Who would have guessed that an astounding rock group could also be great actors. Simple story to follow surrounded by the groups hits used in the soundtrack. No band before or since has accomplished what these boys from Liverpool did in such a short time. Light hearted comedy that shows the personal side of the BEATLES. This is a no "Brainer" to a collector of Beatlemania or to anyone who just wants to watch a great film. This is entertainment at its finest. I've collected period films by The Dave Clark Five and Herman's Hermits and there is no comparison, A Hard Days Night when first seen in 1964 was beyond everyone's expectations, especially the critics. My review? Two thumbs up for, A Hard Day's Night.

"Time machine back to my youth"

Created: 07/09/07
I can clearly remember my sister bringing home the "Meet the Beatles" album back when it had just been released in the early sixties...You wouldn't think a record would change someone's life as it did....but it did..and as I discovered later it's not an uncommon story. I became a professional musician and owe it all to this group from Liverpool but I'd bet they launched almost all the babyboomer generation's mucical careers......we all wanted to be the next Beatles! As time went on I became interested in other music...mostly jazz but it seems now I've re-discovered my roots. Yes, I think I'm going through Beatlemania again at 56 years old! I orderd this DVD from e-bay, which is where I seem to get most everything these days and watching it took me back to the day I saw it in the theater among screaming girls.... as if they were really up on stage! While I don't see them as the gods I thought they were at 14 I do appreiciate them even more in some ways. They were the first to introduce the self contained group....the combo! They played their own instruments...sang their own vocals (lead and background) and wrote their own tunes. They set the standard for the generations to come! This is a great dvd to have in any Beatle fans collection! It' a great documentation of the time if you were not there and a great way to go back if you were!

Fab Four Time capsule

Created: 12/01/10
"A Hard Days Night" is a great movie, fast paced and a real time capsule of the Fab Four! I have the two-disc set and the extra features are very interesting and informative on the making of the movie and of the Beatles.

The film includes lots of great music, and is as fresh and dynamic as the day it was released and it's great to see the Lads from Liverpool so fresh faced and having a great time making this, their first film.

So if you want to enjoy great music, and a fun movie that really takes you back in time to the excitement of the start of the British Invasion, watch "A Hard Days Night" and relive the fun and music of the greatest rock and roll band ever.

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night

Created: 30/06/08
A highly under-rated movie, A Hard Day's Night is one of the funniest comedies from the 1960's. Well-written and wonderfully acted by the entire cast, director Richard Lester captures a day in the life of the Beatles. A must-have for movie buffs and any fans of the Beatles and their music.

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night DVD

Created: 01/05/07
I bought this for my 9 year old grandson, who went to a Fab Four (Beatles tribute band) concert last summer. He loved the music, and the transistions of costume and appearence of the band over time. We bought him a CD after that, with all of the Beatles #1 hits, and he loved that too. I was worried that he wouldn't like the film because it's in black and white, and he has never wanted to watch old black and white cartoons with his grandpa - he's just too used to color. He absolutely loves it though, which just goes to show how wide reaching the Beatles music, and personalities are - they can capture the attention of the over-stimulated younger generation with ease!
