Movie synopsis

Director Ron Howard delivers his finest effort with his extraordinary film, A BEAUTIFUL MIND, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2001. Based loosely on Sylvia Nasar's acclaimed biography of mathematician John Forbes Nash, the film is a compelling look at one man's genius, his debilitating mental illness, and the fine line between the two. A BEAUTIFUL MIND begins with Nash (Russell Crowe) at Princeton, where he struggles to think of an original idea, and the stroke of genius that will make him matter. Nash is eccentric, socially awkward, and extremely competitive. Eventually, he finds the inspiration for his innovative and influential work on game theory. He's chosen for a post at MIT, which includes crucial code-breaking work for the US government. There, he meets a beautiful and brilliant student, Alicia (Jennifer Connelly). They marry but their happiness is threatened, as Nash, belatedly diagnosed as schizophrenic, descends into madness. Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman cannily condenses Nash's story, and the film manages to dramatize both Nash's mathematical brilliance and his schizophrenia in a compellingly visual manner. Crowe delivers a strong performance, and has real chemistry with Connelly. The two make the film's story about the power of love believable and moving.

A Beautiful Story

Created: 21/11/06
This movie is one of the best I think I've ever seen - the depicting of John Nash's tragic struggle with schizophrenia is handled carefully and brilliantly by Russell Crowe, who should have been nominated for his performance. His loving wife, Jennifer Connelly, was mezmerizing. The movie's drama flows, and humor is woven in at exactly the right spots, making it enjoyable and keeping you in the story until the last moving moment. I would recommended it for anyone who loves a wonderful story, wonderful acting, or who wants a look inside the mind of a schizophrenic.

This true story reveals the reality of having a mental disorder. This character is socially disfunctional but extremely intelligent. He even falls in love. His schizophrenia begins to take over his life until finally his co workers get him help. It also shows the devistation of being married to someone with mental illness. A dedicated wife who gives up a normal life to stay with her husband so he could have as much of a normal life as possible. Amazing movie!!!

A Beautiful Mind (2002, DVD)

Created: 25/01/07
Plot
John Nash is a mathematical whizz struggling to come up with a truly original idea with which to make his name. Later in life, however, a stint code-breaking for the government results in creeping paranoia and a gradual slide into schizophrenia.

Verdict
If this were fiction, it would be an example of superior storytelling, and it's certainly gripping. Whether you can fully enjoy its many strengths depends on how comfortable you are with a real, tortured and ultimately tragic life being forced into Hollywood's formulaic straitjacket.

greatest movie yet

This movie is the type of movie you will watch once and at the ending be like what?!? I so was amazed at the end. It has a little twist. Nothing bad, but it will make you watchi it AGAIN. Then when you watch it again and you know how it ends you see all the things in the movie that you didn't notice before. I will say from the birds to this guy's friends. I won't say more because it will ruin it, but I know you think that sounds weird, but you will see what I mean when you see it. This is also a true story, and goes into the mind of the person and gives you some sort of insight to the subject. I am trying not to ruin the movie by telling what goes on in it. It is to good to ruin it! Russel Crow does a fabulous job with his character!!! FABULOUS! I loved this movie from the beginning to the END! the end is the best, this is a movie I can watch over and over again and not get bored. And since I have seen it like 5 or 6 times, every time I watch it I see something new! You will like it! I haven't met anyone who hasn't liked it. It has to be one of the best movies I have seen! In my whole life! I highly recommend it! You will like it!
