Breakfast at Tiffany's (DVD, 1999, Sensormatic)

Movie synopsis

Blake Edwards's adaptation of Truman Capote's classic novella is ideally cast with Audrey Hepburn in the role of Holly Golightly. The free-spirited gamine darts about New York, feted by wealthy men drawn to her megawatt charm and elegance, hoping that the party will never end. After "shopping" in front of Tiffany's window, she meets aspiring writer Paul Varjak (George Peppard), and they begin a platonic friendship. "Sponsored" by an older woman (Patricia Neal) whose interest in the young man is more than literary, he can identify with her experience better than most, taking it upon himself to protect her from the worst aspects of city life. But she seems to need little protection from such friends as incarcerated mob boss Sally Tomato (Alan Reed), who pays her to carry messages to Sing Sing. With her infectious joi de vivre, she helps Paul break through a paralyzing case of writer's block. But when the genial Doc Golightly (Buddy Ebsen) appears in New York in search of Holly, the sources of her gossamer lifestyle suddenly become clearer. Edwards's lighter-than-air romantic comedy, set in a fantasy New York, rides on the irresistible charm of Hepburn at her peak, as well as a memorable score by Henry Mancini. Although George Axelrod's screenplay is as different from the original story as George Peppard is from the young Capote, the film succeeds on its own terms.

The inimitable Audrey Hepburn

Created: 05/04/07
I bought it for a young friend with that charming bubbly irresistible prettiness and life that Audrey Hepburn embodies. She had read it was the actress' most outrageous movie. Many were as exciting and fun: Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Charade, Love in the afternoon, Funny Face, etc. Try and see her in War and Peace for a change of pace. Her singing of Moon River gets an Oscar for best song also best score for the movie. Audrey was nominated for best actress. George Peppard is perfect as her adoring caring loving patient interest. Buddy Ebsen, Mickey Rooney and Tiffany's all add preciousness. Needless to say my friend loved it. Blake Edwards directed, Henry Mancini wrote Moon River, Truman capote wrote the novella. Just enjoy.

A Great Classic! Charming, Wild, Funny..Great Movie

Created: 31/08/08
Let me start by saying that I am a chick who does not like "Chick Flix" Everyone says this is one but I still love it. Holly is a crazy, unguided & lost lil girl. Determined to marry for $$. Fred- George P. is sweet and a caring man with his own set of troubles.. The best of friends, you know how that goes. It is a great look back at the 60's I love the style and feel of this classic. Holly sings MOONRIVER and it makes u want to cry. Do I cry when I watch this? yes... you might cry too! Buy it so you can have this in your collection.

Girls Love This Movie!

Created: 30/07/06
Most girls/ladies I know absolutely love this movie. It is not just a chick-flick about relationships, it has such well written and acted comedy, men love it too.
Audrey Hepbern does a remarkable job of making Holly Golightly come to life. If you're not a fan of hers, you will be after this movie. She sings Moonriver unforgetably.
Blake Edwards directs the brilliant cast and hits each beat perfectly. Mickey Rooney deserve mention as well for the apartment manager!
One of the best movies--find out why everyone loves it.

Romance CAN be Entertaining!

Created: 30/06/10
The story seems light, but the acting by Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard make this a classic for romance lovers. Not typical hero-heroine models, but real people nonetheless. I thought of it as a chick flick until several very male friends said they enjoyed it, too. Unexpected twists, lighthearted free-spirit scenes, unexpected ending make it thoroughly enjoyable. Bought this copy as a gift for my granddaughter, who hasn't seen it.

Great Movie To Watch

Created: 01/10/06
I like this movie alot. It's a romance movie that you may compare to Pretty Woman. Unlike Pretty Woman though it is much more easier to watch. I felt that movie incorporated a good amount of comedy in rightful places. The ending is heart-touching and will make any woman cry. The only thing you my not like about this movie is it's suggestion that prostitution is fine and perfectly normal. Otherwise this I great film, if you liked Pretty Woman you'll probably like this one more.
Thanks For Reading And Hope I Helped,
Justin
