Great clubs for beginner through intermediate levels
Created: 03/09/07
My wife and I just started to learn golf in May. I wanted a set of clubs that would see me through from beginner through intermediate levels of play someday. I put together an entire set of used Callaway clubs (7 irons, 2 wedges, driver, putter, 3 hybrid woods, bag) using eBay that I'm very happy with. This iron set was the first thing I bought. So for under $500, I'm getting to learn with a set up clubs that would probably be $1400 if I bought them new. These irons seem to be a perfect fit. I'm getting good distance with reasonable control given my skill level. I think these clubs must be very forgiving for me to be getting such good results already. I'm especially pleased with what I've been able to do with the short range clubs. I feel completely confident whenever I can get to a position for a short iron shot to the green (not that they all turn out perfectly!). That's way more of a feeling of control than I expected to have at this point in learning the game.

I bought a used set of Steelhead X-14 irons with regular flex graphite shafts 2 months ago, and they have re-energized my golf game. I usually shoot in the low 80's, and I immediately picked up distance (approx. 10-15 yards per club). Even off center hits still get good distance. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a reasonably priced high quality club.

X14 Callaway irons, steel shaft
Created: 07/11/10
really cant say at this time. set seems good but no time to use it. Im a collector and wanted a set of this type--callaway x14. now in bag and will use it on occassions but as a backup.....all service was fine and the clubs are in good shape. but when one builds a collection, one cnat know all the componets well. Callaway Drivers and woods are great. The irons tend to be long but very very dead feeling....thus my lack of playing time. I realize this is an ideosyncraric review, but so be it.

Callaway Steelhead X-14 Men's Senior Iron Set Golf Club
Created: 01/08/09
I love the set, 6-SW, all the irons I use without wasting $$ on longer irons which are of no use to me since I have Hybrids. I love my X-14's women set, used it for 4 years. I switched to the Fusion, then Fusion Wide Sole, neither of which are better than the X-14's. I noticed Men's clubs are much cheaper since there are more of them up for auction. I have no problem with the Men's X-14's since the heads are exactly the same for women and men sets. The Senior flex shaft is fine for me, AND, by gripping down 1 inch I get more control with my shots. If I want to stretch the distance slightly for any club, I just grip the club normally, and voila, I get 2 distances with any clubs!!!!! I love the X-14's, will not switch to a different set of irons for a very very long time to come.

X-14 irons

I have used X-14 irons since they came out around 2000. They are not the longest irons out there but they are very consistant and comfortable for me. The uniflex shaft fits my swing speed which is about 90mph with irons. I hit my driver about 225 in the air with a 90-95 mph swing. These irons are great for chipping and knock down shots also. This review is being written because I found a set on Ebay that were brand new, Amazing. I sent them to callaway to adjust the lie to 3 degree upright. The wedges work great for me too. I hit the sw 65 yds, gapw 80 yds, and the wedge 95 yards. I have hit the x-14 graphites also and the firm flex is really nice. I hit them higher and a little longer but steel is more consistant.
