Great Lens for Photographers with Moderate Experience
Created: 24/01/10
This lens is a great choice for your moderately experienced photographer. This lens body does NOT have the IS feature and requires a steady hand (or use of a tripod). Also requires some know how of proper camera settings because the focal length of the lens is greater than the square law of the flash. You can open your aperture, but, this also adds the risk of even more blur and loss of fine details. Great for outdoor use, not perfect inside, but I'm still in love. =)

Get the EF-III if you're on a budget. 70-300mm IS USM if you want better.

It's an old lens ... the first IS lens Canon produced for DSLRs back in 1995 so the technology has gotten better since then. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice lens, but don't be surprised if the focus is a bit slow. You can't go wrong with the newer EF series 75-300mm USM lens if budget is on your mind. Even the non-USM lens EF-III is decent. Don't waste your money on this one. If you really want an IS USM lens, get the 70-300mm IS USM which is much newer and much faster.

| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.Created: 03/09/12
I have yet to use this lens as it was purchased specifically for a trip to Africa to image the wildlife. The trip is for the first two weeks in October. I have been a user of Canon products for many years and expect this item to live up to its reputation. A post-trip report will follow.

Fast Lens easy use without having to use a Tripod, and I have taken shots pointing upwards downwards etc.without the Tele sliding back or forth. This a common complaint about this Lens but so far have not had this experience. Pics. are a little out of focus on the outer border when shot at maximum Telephoto, but over all I am satisfied with it. The Price was a little high, but the condition is excellent for a used Lens and its in perfect working condition.A good buy and a satisfied customer.Thank you E-Bay.
