Product Information
The PowerShot G11 is a compact camera that will find favor with professionals and advanced amateur photographers due to its superb image quality, full manual control of settings, and RAW shooting capability. If it's not practical or safe to carry a large DSLR a high-specification compact such as the PowerShot G11 is a fantastic choice. It's great for photographers looking to capture high resolution, high quality, and low light images without having to carry a large SLR system in their kit bags. The G11 features face detection technology that can detect and track numerous faces within the frame to ensure the correct exposure and focus for them. An enhanced i-Contrast system optimizes the dynamic range of subjects to deliver shadow details whilst avoiding highlight blow outs.

Product Features
  • 5x zoom lens
The 5x zoom lens on the PowerShot G11 extends down to a 28mm equivalent in 35mm format, making it perfect for capturing wide-angle scenes, and zooms in to the equivalent of 140mm. Combined with an optical 4-stop IS mechanism this ensures sharp images even when the camera is hand held in low light and at longer focal lengths.
  • Dual anti-noise system
As seen in the Canon DSLR models, like the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 50D, the DIGIC 4 processor carries out image processing in-camera and in combination with the high-sensitivity 10.0 Megapixel delivers full resolution shooting up to ISO 3200 for exceptional performance in all lighting conditions.
  • 2.8-inch vari-angle PureColor II VA LCD
The LCD screen has 461,000 dots giving a clear and sharp view on images either when shooting or in playback mode. It includes a real time histogram display so you can easily view conditions and alter your shooting settings if required.
  • RAW shooting
Many professionals prefer to shoot in RAW mode rather than shooting JPEGs. The PowerShot G11 features a RAW recording mode so that you can obtain the highest quality images possible from the camera and integrate the G11 easily into your RAW workflow.
  • Auto white balance
A technology from the EOS DSLR series the G11 has a white balance correction feature that allows you to adjust white balance correction in-camera so you can fine-tune for the colors you want in your pictures.

Canon G11 Camera

Created: 19/10/10
Excellent camera. It is in mint condition. Everything was packaged perfectly as if if was brand new out fo the box. I am a scuba diving instructor and I purchased this camera mostly for underwater photography. The lighting on this camera is incredible. In most cases, the flash is nor required to take fantastic pictures, even in low light situations. Photos come out extremely clear, bright and vibrant. Don't let the 10MP fool you, photos on this camera will distroy other ompacts with 15MP easily. That because Canon has privided with camera with an outstanding processor and wide angle lens. In most cases 10MP is all you need. Cameras high MP don't give as clear of shots and end up wasting space on your memory card.

The display on the screen gives a crisp review all your photos. Plus, the fold out face is an excellent feature. Not only does it allow you to view photos from different angles and ajust the viewer from sunlight, you can also fold it back up to protect the screen from being scratched of covered with fingerprints.

This camera has a lot of features, but is extremely easy to use. Everything is convenient located on the camera itself. Most operations are done via turn dials, saving you a ton of time from accessing the menus, such as ajusting the ISO or changing picture modes. The only time you need to use the menu is for making tiny adjustments, such as the flash intensity, picture size, white light balance, etc. However, with Canons ingenius well, these adjustments can be made quickly and easily.

The battery life on camera is amazing. I have taken and reviewed nearly 300 hundred pictures with screen before the having charge the battery. One battery is more than enough for the average user to make sure they have enough juice in their camera, while on vacation. I did get an extra battery with the WP-DC34 underwater housing, but I don't think I will be using it very often.

The camera is extremely upgradable. You can add professional Canon flash shoes, or lenes. This provides a great deal versitlity for photographers who want to use their camera to produce prfessional magazine quality photos.

My only citicism is the lack of HD video. This feature was added to the G12 model, although I wished they would have put it on the G11. Even though it doesn't have HD, the video on the camera still produces great quality videos. The only downside is if you want to watch them on a large HD tv, you will need to play them in a smaller viewing area. However, for youtube or smart phones, I don't beleive you will notice a significant difference.

Overall, excellent camera that I highly recommend to anyone looking for one of the best compact on the market today. It gives phtographers the best of both worlds of DSLR in a compact setting. I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a well built compact that takes extordinary pictures without the need to lug around a large camera with. I plan to keep this camera for a long time. Again, I purchased this camera primaraly for scuba diving, but after using it for a few weeks I will be using this camera as my main camera, both on land and underwater. Good bye Fuji and hello Canon.

I want to personally thank the seller. He did such a great job. I have already added him to my favorite sellers list because I want to do business again with him if the opportunity arises. I am sure he will make a lot of other ebayers as happy as me.

Not Ideal but Darn Close

Created: 10/07/10
My Canon G11 works well with other cameras in the following situations:

Theatre--The G11 and my digital SLR are very compatible for shooting theatre. When I need to shoot quiet scenes, I use the silent G11. When I need to shoot beyond the focal length range of the G11, I use the SLR.
Golf--While standing within ear range of the golfer; the SLR while standing farther away.
Landscape--For shooting test shots and the medium format film camera for taking the actual shot.
Still Life--For shooting the test shots and the film camera for taking the actual shot.
Action--For general shooting while the SLR shoots the long shots.
Pinhole--For shooting test shots, then the medium format or large format pinhole film camera takes the actual shot.
Weddings--G11 shoots the available light candids and the digital SLR or medium format film camera shoots the posed flash shots.
Backup--G11 serves as a backup to my digital SLR, my film SLR, or my medium format film cameras.
Action Events--G11 set up in one location to capture motion picture; Canon G5 set up in another location to capture still shots at intervals, digital SLR used to take action shots.
Movies--I can simultaneously shoot an event with my G11 and my G5 then merge the footage during postproduction editing.

My G11 is better than my digital SLR when I need to...
Shoot quietly.
Shoot overhead shots.
Shoot at ground level.
Shoot at waist level.
Shoot at ISO 80
Shoot close-ups using a tripod
Shoot still life using a tripod
Shoot without drawing much attention.
Shoot movies (my SLR does not do movies).
Shoot with image stabilization (I do not yet have this feature for my SLR).
Carry a light photographic load.
Compose using the LCD.
Capture images with great depth-of-field.
Keep my digital sensor free of dirt, dust, and debris.
Avoid vibrations due to mirror slap.
Blend in with the tourists.

My digital SLR is better than my G11 when I need to...
Be prepared to shoot any type of subject.
Obtain more image detail.
Project a professional image.
Shoot fast moving subjects.
Shoot with a high firing rate.
Shoot with longer focal lengths.
Shoot with wider focal lengths.
Shoot with faster lenses.
Shoot with a fisheye lens.
Shoot with lenses that have less optical defects such as barreling.
Shoot hand-held at eye-level.
Shoot long timed exposures.
Manually focus.
Capture images with shallow depth-of-field.
Shoot with more depth-of-field control.
Shoot with perspective control.
Shoot at a specific Kelvin white balance.
Shoot double exposures.
Shoot in the macro reproductive range of 1:1 to 12:1
Shoot with a radio controlled remote flash unit while the camera flash provides the fill light.

My Canon G11 is better than my Canon G5 except when I need to...
Shoot with an f/2 lens.
Shoot at ISO 50.
Use an interval timer.
Use 52mm filters.

My Canon G11 is better than my point & shoot camera except when I need to...
Shoot without thinking.
Carry a small photographic load in my pants’ pocket.
Be totally ignored as a photographer.

Comments:
The G11 is not my ideal compact camera but it is darn close. The only reason I cannot give this camera a perfect rating is that I am reserving that rating for my ideal. My ideal is a Canon G11 that has been ergonomically designed, has interchangeable lenses, has a rangefinder for focusing manually, and has the manufacturing quality of a Leica MP 35mm rangefinder.

I highly recommend it!

Canon PowerShot G11 10.0 Megapixel

Created: 09/09/09
The G Series comes full circle. You asked, and Canon not only listened, but delivered big-time. Advanced amateurs who have overwhelmingly embraced the G Series will be delighted with PowerShot G11, which features RAW mode for unlimited editing options, a 28mm wide-angle lens, and a 2.8-inch Vari-Angle PureColor System LCD. Add to that Canon’s new High Sensitivity System and high-speed ISO for incredible image quality, and Canon’s top-range compact digital camera is a truly groundbreaking successor.

PowerShot G11 Highlights

Canon PowerShot G11 highlights

New 10-megapixel sensor coupled with Canon’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor
The PowerShot G11 employs a newly developed, 10-megapixel High Sensitivity System by combining a powerful CCD sensor and Canon’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor. Thanks to this technological advancement, the G11 is dramatically more sensitive than cameras with identical megapixel counts, and delivers spectacular images with minimal noise. Increased sensitivity demands a higher ISO speed, and the PowerShot G11 delivers with a new maximum setting of ISO 3200. Blur and camera shake are notably reduced for the ultimate in sharpness and clarity.

In addition, a new Low Light mode lets you capture images in an astonishing range of conditions. The camera automatically adjusts the ISO speed from ISO 320 to ISO 12800 in relation to ambient brightness, subject movement and camera shake.

Full range of shooting and recording modes including RAW + JPEG
The PowerShot G11’s RAW mode lets you shoot images without JPEG compression. It gives you clearer images and complete creative control in editing. RAW images are transferred directly to the computer where they can then be edited using image adjustment software or a processing application to adjust your images as you please. The camera can also be set to allow the simultaneous recording of both RAW and JPEG images while shooting.

Also, with 26 Shooting Modes, you're ready for whatever shot comes your way.

Large, bright 2.8-inch Vari-Angle LCD

The PowerShot G11 gives you a large 2.8-inch PureColor System LCD screen for excellent control when framing your shots. But size is only part of the story. Canon’s PureColor System LCD offers spectacular color, resolution and contrast even at an angle. The screen is durable and easy to see. It is a perfect feature for gathering friends and family around to see your images.

Optional accessories including Speedlite flashes, underwater housing and Tele-Converter Lens

The PowerShot G11 is compatible with the Speedlite flash series intended for all EOS series SLR cameras. Attach a Speedlite flash to the hot shoe, then you can set and control the flash on the "Flash Control" menu in the camera. With a Speedlight, the G11 is given extra functions such as autoflash metering, FE lock and Flash exposure compensation; continuous shooting with external flash. Also Canon’s Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 enables you to have multiple slave flashes and wireless control. A Tele-Converter lens designed for the G11 and WP-DC34 Waterproof Case are also available.

Decent Point-shot camera

Created: 20/12/10
I need one camera for pocket size but I don't want to compromise too much on quality, shutter speed and sensitivity. I knew Canon G series were high end point-shot camera, I used to play G1 for a while.

Canon G11 is matching with my exception. The user interface is quiet simple and lovely, but not well to me because I play Canon 40D. I need a while to get used to it. I surprise the LCD brightness and resolution is far better than canon 40D, as well as flip over function which is required for some shooting scenario. Image stabilization is pretty. High ISO loss many detail I believe Canon need to improve (also other suppliers). It's too compact and bigger hands will be hard to hold it. One drawback is the function wheel is too loose, cheap feeling like. I like the way as solid as SLR.

awesome camera- lives up to the hype

Created: 03/06/10
we have had many compact cameras before, most recently a canon sd870 and were always impressed with the outdoor shots but the inside were sorely lacking, the G-11 takes care of that!

yes it is a little bigger but the difference in performance is night and day. Plenty of manual functions for the enthusiast when you do not want to drag a DSLR around but also simple enough to point and shoot with amazing results.

I had read some complaints about shutter lag and yes there is a gap but not to the extreme that some portray it

Bottom line, it will never replace my nikon d-90 but it is darn close and the d-90 does not fit in my wife's purse.
