Classical Gas,Mason Williams & Mannheim Steamroller

Created: 09/06/08
I got this CD specifically for the title track. Classical Gas is my all-time favorite guitar centered song. It takes me back to a time MANY years ago. Listening to it after so many years was a euphoric experience. The only reason I chose good instead of excellent on the rating is because it's not exactly like the original. It's got a distinctly "Mannheim" flavor to it. I would have preferred the original version, but it was still most enjoyable.

Thought I was purchasing the original "Mason Williams Phonograph Album". What a dissapointment...

Chip Davis features his drum kit in an annoyingly loud and distracting fashion in what could only be called a tasteless cover/rendition of the 1968 hit, "Classical Gas".

If you want to enjoy the real thing, unperverted by Mr. Davis, with great songs in their original form such as "Classical Gas", "Sunflower" and "The Prince and His Panites", make sure you buy the original "Mason Williams Phonograph Album".

Classical Gas - CD by Mason Williams

Created: 06/01/07
I purchased this CD for my music classes; I teach guitar to forty students at a local high school and attempt to find a variety of music to challenge them as well as give them music they can enjoy. I had found a copy of "Classical Gas" in sheet music with both tabs and notes, but wanted to pique their interest in it by letting them hear the song. I knew I could trust something done by Mannheim Steamroller. When I played it for the classes, they loved it; several students are working on learning the music now. I also listen to it outside of class because I enjoy the music; it is of the highest quality. Being a musician myself, I know the skill and talent it takes to play these songs. Combining Mason Williams with Mannheim Steamroller was a masterful move! It is a great CD for musicians and listeners alike!

Must Have!

Created: 21/08/09
I owned this cd before and lost it. I happy to replace the best Mason Williams production. This is a must have for any classical/jazz enthusiast. Of course, there is also the Mannheim Steamroller background, so there is no way to go wrong with this one.

A bit of a surprise...

Created: 12/09/07
I also thought I was ordering the older version, but I was thrilled with this because I can't have too many versions of Classical Gas! I had the privilege of naming my grandson after Mason Williams, which was because I love this piece soooo much! He is 8 1/2 now, and I think we've spurred on a new popularity for "Mason" as a name. To think he may read this... wow! I have even heard it played expertly on the accordian if you can image. It is spectacular! God bless you, Mason Williams! Keep composing! How about a song for "Debe"?
