I already own the Mac compatible versions of Generals and Zero Hour (ZH) made by Aspire. I had recently bought a PC laptop and knew I had to have these for it also. I love the Artificial Intellegence (AI) that offers 21st century weapons and equipment, and challenges of military strategy. I don't play any of the other video games (XBox, PS2, etc..) Aside from obviously being too expensive, I just never got caught up in the hype. My favorite is ZH. With the fan base that the Generals games have, I am surprised there haven't been newer expansion packs created since ZH. There are however, a lot of mods on the internet created by other fans that can be downloaded for free. Because of these "unknown heros" of mine, my love for these games may never end. Nonetheless, I still have hope that since EA Games owns Generals they will pick up where Westwood left off and provide us with a much needed expansion pack. I would also like to see a real Naval influance added. Some of the mods offered on the internet have it. However, I'd still like to see it in the expansion pack. LONG LIVE THE GENERALS!!!

Generals + Zero Hour

Having played the C&C series since Red Alert, I must say this is, by far, the most entertaining chapter of the series. Even C&C3 didn't keep me as captivated. This RTS allows you to use different strategies (massive armies or a couple units that you use for tactical advantages) each enhanced by the different army you chose and developed even further in the expansion with specialized branches of the three armies. The 3 story modes are challenging and the skirmish missions will keep you coming back.
Simple to learn, almost endless replay value, clearly a timeless game.
System requirements are low enough for standard laptops so it's great fun on the run as well.

Command & Conquer Generals (Deluxe Edition) (PC Games)

A strategy game, Command & Conquer Generals (Deluxe Edition) (PC Games) includes Command & Conquer Generals, and the expansion pack Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour. I purchased this game pack in order to play against my son, and was soon playing on line against other opponents as well. The expansion pack gives you the option to play as one of nine special abilities generals in three different factions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses that you can optimize to your advantage. Unlike role playing games, this strategy game requires that you manage resource collection, infrastructure build-up, and assembling a proper mix of forces even before the battles begin. Good to excellent depending on your own likes and dislikes of gaming genre. A keen way to mix it up with a competitive son, and not get physically bruised in the process (ego, on the other hand, may be a different story.)

Generals is a blast

In my opinion Generals is a must-have for even an average C&C fan. The depth and customization of this game far exceeds all other games in this great series. Having three armies each having there own strong and weak points means any style of player will find his niche and favorite style of battle. Only downfalls of this game is that there is no water warfare in this game which had been a kind of staple of the last few games. If your are really into the series skip buying this and save yourself some money and go ahead and get the Generals Deluxe pack, which comes with with the Zero Hour expansion pack which is also great and adds a lot to the play. But even if you only go with the standard it will be at minimum a solid month of play before you see it all if you play it hours a day.
