See the Hyborean Age w/ CONAN THE BARBARIAN bonus DVD!
Created: 04/09/06
This movie is definately one of my favorites. Based on the Robert E. Howard stories of his imagined Hyborean Age, this is keynote film in the Sword-and-Sorcery genre. There have been many to imitate, but none to ever duplicate the one and only Conan the Barbarian! An extremely well-done film: the cast, the action, the music, the story - they all make this an absolute MUST SEE! This particular DVD is also loaded w/ outstanding extras! A "making of" and special effects feature all show you how it was done, while a rare commentary by the director and Schwarzenegger himself provide interesting additional info. Even the deleted and extended scenes add some unexpected storyline and character interaction. I'm proud to have this one as part of my personal collection and rewatch it often. Thank you for taking the time to read my review, I hope that it was helpful - please take a moment and rate it accordingly. Be fair and take care out there...

A - R - N - O - L - D Brings It!! All Hail CONAN!!

I just spent over five hours with this disk even though I already own the original DVD release. It was worth it. First off, the video is a(much)cleaner and sharper transfer, a marked improvement over the old disk. And the extras are great too. After watching the film the first time I actually sat through whole thing again again while listening to the director's commentary, something I have not done with any other DVD. The extra footage, while only a few minutes, does add something to the ending. I liked it. And Milius' comments about it made me appreciate it even more later. My only complaint might be to wish that the commentary had been extended to the outtakes and deleted scenes. I would have liked to hear more about the deleted King Osric scene and how it was originally intended to fit in the movie. Finally, the documentary "Conan Unchained" was a pleasant surprise. I expected the usual 15 minute "making of" promo dating back to the original release but it is a beefy, informative(and amusing)featurette with many recently filmed interviews with cast and crew. A fan's wish come true. And speaking of wishes, that exchange between John Milius and Arnold about getting together sometime to make a third Conan....YES! Let's get Conan on that throne! Anyway, while we're waiting, we can all watch this one till the sun comes up. A CLASSIC meant for EVERY DVD collection!!

Great Movie

Such a time was the Hyborean Age. Such a tale is the story of Conan The Barbarian. He was a Thief, Warrior, Gladiator and then King.
This was one of the definitive movies that made Arnie a big name in Hollywood and I didn't mean his surname Schwarzenegger.
There has been many versions of this movie but as I found out in my research that the best version to own is the Collectors Edition from the good old USA and the Collectors Edition from France.
This is an age old tale of good versus evil and a story worth watching over and over again.
Great work Arnie.

CONAN!!! Great Comic book Epic.

Arnold Schwarzenegger doing what he does best, crushing human beings with his bare hands and stabbing giant snakes. This is a great adaption, even though it strayed away from the source material. It kept true to the essence of Conan's character which is the most important thing. The sets and look of the film is amazing, complete attention to detail. The action sequences were done brutally, yet not overdone. It's a great epic and I love that it was told so gracefully, the viewer isn't overcrowded with meaningless exposition and pointless side characters.

Where Have You Been?

If you haven't yet seen this film, you've likely been living under a rock for quite a while. This movie is one of the great epics of film history, truly a giant in the field of fantasy.
The themes visited in the story (love, loss, vengeance, revolution in the face of overwhelming odds) are timeless. I highly recommend this, as well as the others in the series, as an integral piece of any DVD collection.
See the Governator in the role that made his career!
