Crimes of the Heart

Crimes of the Heart was ahead of it's time when first released. It is an insightful, engaging, and surprisingly funny and smart comedy that was mis-labeled a chick-flik in the early days of that sort of thing. Too bad because it is SO much more! It is not like the dopey films out now that pass for adult comedy but are really adolescent slapstick. This is for real.
The characters, played by no less than Diane Keaton, Sissy Spacek and Jessica Lange are wonderful and well developed. Their story is multi-layered and interwoven. If you have sisters, you can easily relate to each of them. If you have any disfunction in your family, you will find some of the scenes so familiar and others hysterically funny! The supporting cast is excellent.
I would love to see this film re-released. They could have done a follow up.

Excellent movie, not since "Steel Magnolias" have I seen such a heartwarming, funny, emotional movie..Jessica Lange (King Kong), Sissy Spacek (Carrie) and Diane Keaton (Surrender Dorothy) were cast perfectly as the three unusual Sisters who would steal your heart..I have always enjoyed Diane Keaton and Sissy Spacek movies, now I can add Jessica Lange to that list..movie buffs especially fans of "Steel Magnolias" wont want to miss this treat..I wish I had Sisters like these!! I think Sally Field would have been perfect had she been cast as another Sister or Cousin Chick..

I love this movie about three unusual sisters in the South - Babe, Lenny, and Meg Magrath. The writing, acting, and direction were excellent. It stars Sissy Spacek, Diane Keaton, and Jessica Lange three amazing actors... In 1986 it won 1 Golden Globe for best Actress (Sissy Spacek). And a New York Film Critics Circle award for best actress. Nominated for 3 oscars. These warm funny sisters touched my heart......

It is just a special sisters movie that will make you think so fondly about your family and your life and it also relates the idea that life is short it's time to do what you have been putting off.

It was one of the movies that my children & I first watched together after my divorce and we laughed and cried together and it was one of their favorites to watch at least once a week.
