Dazed and Confused (DVD, 2004, Flashback Edition; Widescreen)

Richard Linklater, Jason London, Matthew McConaughey|Theatrical release: 1993 | Rating: R (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Richard Linklater's DAZED AND CONFUSED takes a hysterical, nostalgic cross-clique look at high school social development. On the last day of school in May 1976, students at a suburban Texas high school wait, lackadaisically, for classes to end. The restless almost-seniors--an eclectic group of stone-heads, fraternal jocks, and snobby sorority girls--can't wait to haze the incoming freshman, an annual event as harrowing for freshman boys as it is humiliating for girls. Amidst this teenage wasteland of drugs, partying, and rock and roll is football star Pink (Jason London), who saves scrawny pre-frosh Mitch (Wiley Wiggins) from being paddled to oblivion by upper-classmates. But Pink has his own battles: he's struggling over the head coach's demand that football players sign a pledge to abstain from sex and all psychoactive substances. When a wild end-of-the-year party is cancelled, the students end up congregating at a beer-blast in the back woods, organized by aging hang-about Wooderson (Matthew McConaughey). In the same way that George Lucas assembled a cast of fresh young faces for AMERICAN GRAFFITI, Linklater here creates an unforgettable cast of characters that are immediately familiar to anyone who has ever been through high school.

The Best Stoner, Party movie's with a 1970's flair

Created: 11/09/06
This is one of the Best party movies of all time.. With a Soundtrack that spawned not one but two CD's.. I watched this movie in the theatre and many, many, many times on vhs & dvd... The classic cars are way cool.. The story is about coming of age, good times & freedom through choices that we can make in life.. This is one of Richard Linklater's earlier films that he directed and one of his best.. Matthew McConaughey & Ben Afflack can both be spotted in this movie if you keep your eyes open.. The cast also includes Jason London, Joey Lauren Adams, Rory Cochrane, Wiley Wiggins & Parker Posey... I hope that you catch this movie, so ( checkie later!! )

Dazed & Confused, in this day and age.

Created: 25/02/11
This movie is a nostalgic look back at the seventies. The life of average everyday teenagers, as seen in this film, that depicts shenanigans on the last day of school.
Nothing shocking here, unless you've only seen the severely edited TV version. A sprinkling of profanity exists in the vernacular of the characters' language. Not that any of us have ever indulged in conversations like that!
Many of the actors in this movie have been viewed in other films, as this, more than likely was the springboard for their individual successes.
Basically this was to the seventies what American Graffitti was to the fifties.
A coming-of-age film that most people from that era will enjoy: the adventures of characters they are bound to recognize from their own high school days. I know I saw someone that looked like me, even my wife admitted it, until I pointed out one of the characters that looked so much like her brother that when she saw him, her jaw dropped!
See if you can find one of the characters that reminds you of someone you knew.
I'm sure you'll howl with laughter when you see a certain person in the movie and recognize him or her as a friend from the old days.
I bought this film as a little escape from the present,to journey back to a time well reminised. I plan on taking that journey many times, until I wear out the disc!
The soundtrack is well worth finding online, there are many songs that you'll love to hear over and over again.
This disc is especially collectable for the omitted scenes not shown in the video. There are also some commercials from that time as well.
I know you'll enjoy this movie.

Still Dazed and Confused

Created: 01/01/07
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It featured an all star cast that was mainly unknown at the time. Matthew Mcconaughey(spelling?), Rory Cochrane, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason London are just a few to name that appear in this movie. It basically deals with some high school seniors in Texas who party hard during their last few days of school. They haze the freshmen, hook up with each, drinks lots of beer and smoke lots of dope! The acting is totally awesome though and it's not really explicit so it's appropriate for most folks. This movie reminded me a great deal of high school but also college and my Fraternity days. I don't own very many movies on DVD but this is one that I do. I highly recommend this movie to all. Have a good one! - gene

Hysterically funny ! Love this flick!!

Hysterically Funny! "Dazed and Confused" takes you back to the 70's and recaptures the crushing boredom of a small Texas suburbian town. Great genuine themes - rebelling, the thought of growing up too fast, and life after school. AWESOME SOUNDTRACK!! A clear-eyed look at high school and the life indulging in vices that was viewed as a coming-of-age "rite of passage rather than a life-threatening act of immorality. Excellent Cast! Matthew McConaughey is so sexy in this movie! I could watch it over and over and over.....

Just about flawless movie

Created: 03/07/07
Linklater put so many great things together with this movie. From the smallest details to the biggest, this movie has lots of inspired touches. He found great cars, licensed great songs, the wardrobe stuff is all very convincing, lots of little details about the dialogue are spot-on.

Most importantly, it's an interesting and well-told story, with lots of very definite characters and interesting progressions through important events. What's nice about the important events is that they matter to the characters but they happen everywhere every day--you almost never get the feeling that you're watching something that only happens in the movies.

He found tons of actors who have gone on to bigger roles since, and everybody gets a chance to shine. Tons of funny lines and insightful behavioral moments with subtle little psychological observations. It often makes you feel like you wish you were a kid again and you're glad you've grown up and learned things the kids onscreen haven't learned, sometimes all in the same scene.

Wiley Wiggins sometimes takes his lumps for not having the same level of acting ability as those around him, but it's ok, because he's perfect for this part. Even if it's the best work he ever does and he's not quite as charismatic as those around him, he's so good here for what the character needsa that I actually find he's one of my favorites.

I've seen this movie a few times since it first came out, and what always seems to stick with me afterward is the imagery of people genuinely having fun, hanging out, cracking each other up, and enjoying themselves. There's not much suspense to speak of, and the drama is very small and close to home, but just about everything in this movie is perfect. And there aren't too many movies out there you can say that about.
