But the band's concerts were selling out regularly, and 1975's ALIVE! album had gone gold, putting Kiss on the pop map. DESTROYER, on which they teamed with Alice Cooper producer Bob Ezrin, was the breakthrough that finally got Kiss' grandiose rock ideas down on record.DESTROYER is a chancy, ambitious album. It opens with a radio announcer reporting a teen's death in a car crash, followed by a snippet of "Rock And Roll All Nite" (which had appeared on 1975's DRESSED TO KILL); then the band launches into "Detroit Rock City," an homage to the first city to make them stars. "Great Expectations" features ornate orchestration, a heavenly chorus and a guitar tone that exposes the band's glam-rock ambitions. DESTROYER also includes a ready-made rock anthems ("Shout It Out Loud"), a swipe at manipulative groupies ("Do You Love Me," which is punched up with tubular bells) and a foreboding song about "the lord of the wasteland" that became Gene Simmons' signature tune ("God Of Thunder").And then there is "Beth," an uncharacteristic ballad, sung and co-written by drummer Peter Criss. The lush strings and delicate piano gave Kiss a Top-10 hit and a greater fan base. Soon would come a TV Movie ("Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park") and a comic book.

Best KISS album EVER!!!

Created: 17/05/07
Perhaps the best KISS release of all time. This album has stood the test of time with classic hits Beth, Shout It Out Loud, Detroit Rock City, King of The Nightime World, Do You Love Me, and God of Thunder, which to this day are still played at KISS concerts. Flaming Youth, Sweet Pain and Great Expectations round out this rock solid album. This is a MUST for any person getting into KISS. This album is a MUST for any person getting into music period!!!

Kiss Destroyer

This was the first Kiss album I ever bought and it was an a whim. I was shocked at how talented a band they were. However after I bought the ReMastered version I would be blown away with how good they were when they had the sound quality restored. Detroit Rock City was by far one of the best songs as well as God of Thunder, Great Expectations, Shout It Out Loud, Beth, and Do You Love Me? This is one of Kiss's greatest albums and should belong in any fan's collection.

kiss was the glam rock band

Created: 10/07/09
i remember getting this album when it was released. i was 10 years old. kiss was my favorite band when i was a kid. i must have outgrown them in the time apart. this is the first kiss album i've played front to back in twenty years! its still a good album. the brightist gem is detroit rock city, a song with a bass line that is second to none. gene simmons on bass can really play. this song always gets me on my feet moving. unfortunatly, none of the rest can live up to this one except maybe the ballad beth. this piano and string hit still gets airplay today. the rest is good-but nothing very special.

Kiss Klassic

Created: 07/07/06
This album starts with the sound of someone starting their car and turning on the radio. You continue to hear this person rocking out to Kiss and singing along. Then you hear the sound of tires squeal and a crash. And this leads into Detroit Rock City. Rumor has it this is a true event that happened to someone either going to or leaving a Kiss concert in Charlotte NC. But the band decided Charlotte Rock City didn't sound right while writing this tune. Highlights on this album include Detroit Rock City, King Of The Nightime World and the single Beth.
