Audio Mixer: Jon Gass.WHEN ACTORS SING could be the title of a surreal reality-based TV show; instead it often turns out to be an all too real phenomenon. Luckily, the soundtrack for the Bruce Paltrow-directed movie comedy about the world of karaoke turns out to be a highly listenable collection of real-life musicians and actors picking up microphones and letting it all hang out vocally. Among the non-singers of the batch who deserve special mention is Paltrow's daughter Gwyneth. Playing the role of daughter to con artist Huey Lewis, her soulful delivery not only meshes well with her fictional pappy on a sweet sounding version of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'," but also with Babyface on a duet of the Temptations' "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)."Other thespians who come through with flying colors are former ER starlet Maria Bello and Paul Giamatti (aka Howard Stern nemesis Pig Vomit). Bello goes the techno route with the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" while taking a considerably mellower tone on the Bonnie Raitt ballad "I Can't Make You Love Me." Juxtaposing Giamatti's straightforward reading of Todd Rundgren's "Hello, It's Me," is a roof raising cover of "Try a Little Tenderness" alongside jazz singer Arnold McCuller.

) I bought this cd after watching the movie on satellite. The movie is about karaoke competition, and the actors, other than Huey Lewis, are not known as singers. The cd is very good, but can't quite capture the experience of watching the video. One other thing disappointed me. Michael Buble was one of the contestants in the movie. This movie was made before he became well known. The cd doesn't contain his performance.

) Some of the best songs on the track are "Feelin' Alright" (Huey Lewis), "Cruisin" (Huey Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow), "Just my Imagination" (Babyface and Gwyneth Paltrow) and a beautiful "Freebird" by Arnold McCuller (the main reason I bought the CD). Believe me, you'll enjoy this CD.

I love this CD. I saw this movie and loved Gweneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis. I had no idea she could sing so well. I love their duet "Cruisin", and the rest of the CD as well.
Duets soundtrack

I love the song "just my imagination" so when I heard Gwyneth Paltrow and Baby Faces version I just had to have it. The whole CD is a wonderful collection of oldies remade, not better, but differently and just as enjoyable.

I bought this CD "Duets" because I had just watched the movie, which I really liked. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the CD. The actors sound really good in the movie because you're involved in the drama and are amazed at how well the characters can sing! Once I actually listened to the CD, I was amazed that I actually thought the singing in the movie was good. The CD really brings out the flaws in the singers voices and is very hard to listen to. I would not recommend this CD to anyone and will probably end up trying to re-sell it.
