I had been staying on the beach in Norfolk when Fifty Shades of Grey became the topic of conversation in every newspaper and magazine. Selling more than Harry Potter - shock, horror - what ever is the world coming to?!! Anyway, when I returned to 'civilisation' (well, Snettisham is a bit in the back of beyond!!) I ordered the book off eBay, and waited for its arrival. Blimey!! Was it worth waiting for?!! I have to say 'Yes, yes, .... oooh...... YES,... aaah!! (Sorry folks!) The book is a bit of an easy read, not exactly brain straining, but very 'unputdownable' I have to say. Yes, it's more than raunchy, leaving Jilly Cooper and Jackie Collins as almost virginal, but personally, I didn't find it too shocking. I have an absolute hate of torture, cruelty and bullying, and truly didn't find the book of that ilk. After all, consenting adults, and all that ..... and boy! Anastasia (the female lead in the book, for any people that have been living in a cave in Outer Mongolia these past months) surely was consenting. Every time. For everything. Get my drift?!! The book is part of a Trilogy, and I'm mid way through the third book. I have to say that I found the first book centred around sex, sex and more sex, but by the second book there was a real storyline developing, and I did find it gripping. Still sex, sex and more sex, you understand, but gripping too. Yes, there are some bits that irritated me - her inner arguments with her domestic goddess for instance, and also, the constant eye rolling, biting her lip, and putting her hair back behind her ears (all habits that she had) did get a little wearing, but on the whole, I found the books entertaining, sexy,-if not educational, at least eye opening!!! And a jolly good read!!!! If you don't beg, steal, buy or borrow them you'll be completely out of touch with the rest of the world, so go on ..... give it a whirl, you can always light the bar-b-q with it if you don't like it - they're not exactly expensive - go on ... you know you want to!! Anyway, I'm off to read another chapter or two!!! Byeeee!

I bought this product because no one I knew had a copy, and no way was I paying full price. Besides, I would have been too ashamed to ask if I could borrow it anyway. I wanted to know what the 'fastest selling paperback of all time' has that all the other epic novels in circulation lack. Coincidentally, I didn't need to buy a copy to find out. All this book offers is badly choreographed smut. I found the protagonist bland and impossible to relate to. Much of the subtext is a re-hash of the 'Twilight' saga and, if you read closely enough, there's evidence that the author has seen too many episodes of 'The Big Bang Theory'. E.g. '"Coitus interruptus"';and what is essentially a relationship agreement. Sound familiar? This book is ideal for bored female fantasists who've probably never read a credible novel in their lives, satisfying and summarising the original curiosity which lead to my purchasing 'the fastest selling paperback of all time'. I couldn't even struggle to the end. Silly, really, seeing as it's a modern masterpiece.

Bazinga.

I bought the book because of the the publicity; i suspect like many other people did. My partner teased me something rotten for buying porn, but to be honest i was a bit disappointed in the book - loads of S&M sex if that's your thing, which it isn't mine. I think that the basic storey was the same as any Mill and Boon book - girl meets boy, falls in love, all bliss, all isn't what it seems and they fall out but she still loves him.
Very disappointed that there didn't appear to be an ending but guess that is to make you buy the other two books, which i haven't. A friend who has read them all has told me that book three is the best, but the she seemed to enjoy them all.

Much publicity .......of course I needed to read this book!I could hardly wait to read it!
When I researched and saw it on e-bay for less than half price I wanted it!
Phew..........
So now almost at the end of the book I find myself asking what was all the fuss about! I found it ordinary and in some places boring to be honest!
On a positive I liked a small sentence that was used several times about Mr Grey cocking his head to one side I could imagine him doing that found that endearing! however the book did not flow for me the relationship between Ana and Christian did not seem believable and more impotantly neither did the sex pages which appeared to be written in a way that you felt the author when adding these juicey segments had a sex book between her legs which she was refering to as she penned those pages.
I would certainly not have bought this book at full price and feel in some way I have wasted my evenings trawling through it but haho I have learned a big lession ...........to never again follow those sheep!
