GoPro HD HERO2 Motorsports Edition Camcorder - Silver(UK version)

I bought this GoPro Hero-2 because of the time lapse feature. I need it for my future road trip around Utah. I am getting used to it now so that it will be second nature by the time I hit the road in 12 months time.

I am concentrating on time lapse and I have not yet used the '10-frames in 1 second' or 'regular movie' options.

I have done a few sample videos; trip to work, trip to the shops, trip thru a car wash - etc. I used the free, GoPro CineForm s/ware to process the results. After just 6 'mini movies' I am giving it 5/5. The movies aren't perfect, but with more practice, I am sure I will get much better results.
The s/ware was a bit fiddly to use initially, but just You-Tube (Y-T) a few examples and you will be on your way.
Running the time lapse at 2 frames per second meant I had several sub directories with 999 images in each. It wasn't immediately obvious how to merge these together, but after a few more points-and-clicks, I did it.
Pros.
Good value - 200 quid against a typical 300.
Results look amazing, even with my fumbling attempts at using the s/ware.
Light. Solid construction. The motorsport suction pad is very sturdy.
Tons of accessories available - if you have tons of cash available. Again, Y-T will give you many examples of DIY projects for self assembly fittings etc.
Cons.
The menu system is a bit messy - press one button to start, then the second button to 'cycle' thru the options. If you miss your selection, you have to cycle around again. Not the end of the world and you soon get used to it.
It is sealed in it's water tight cage, which means you can't run an external power source to it - without drilling a hole in the side ... watch Y-T for examples.


Overall, with my short term experience of the camera, I am very impressed with the results I have produced. There are many more features available with the camera and the s/ware that I have not tried yet so I am confident that my movies will only get better.

I have not been able to use it to its full potential but what i get out of it so far exceeds my expectations! I was looking to record myself motocrossing but i also started to use it for other purposes, such as time lapse videos and also using it as a spy camera. you dont realise what other things it can be used for until you have it in your hand. and the size and weight of it is amazing! You hardly even notice its on your helmet while riding! One other good feature it has is the 50fps at 960p. which allows you to be able to view your recording in awesome slow mo! Definently worth it! Especially when your able to see where your going wrong while riding/driving. would definently recommend it!

These little cameras are great for the money that you pay for them.

When recording in the day time, the quality of the video is second to none, although the sound is not very good, but you can buy a separate mic and use that.

The quality at night on the other hand is not so good though.

The slow motion recording is great fun to play around with but make sure you have extra light or it will come out dark.

When looking for an SD card, don't just buy a cheap ebay card and hope for the best.

This is what I did and still shots take a while to take the picture because of their 5MB+ file size, and when taking 10 shots a second, you have to hold the camera in the same spot or they come out blurry.

I'd still recommend this to people as I enjoy using it myself and I'm sure others will too.

I have mostly only been using this so far for taking pictures, the quality is brilliant. I intend to use it for videos later.

The 10 shots a second function works really well

The 120FPS mode although not the best quality the camera has, makes a very good slow motion video. (You will need to download video editing software off their website to do this)

The overall quality of both the video and pictures are amazing. The pictures in the right light are brilliant and when there not there still pretty good.

The only downside is if you want to take this diving, you really need the dive casing. For everything else though weather it’s just pictures or videos, the camera is brilliant.

The GoPro Hero 2 HD is an amazing little gadget, have used it on several rides and made a few videos, but I'm just getting started. I love the stop-motion photo feature and the video quality is amazing too. I wish the battery lasted a bit longer, but I'll just have to get a second one.

The only problem I have is I am fast filling up hard drive space with the content I capture!
