Oooh this is good!!!!!!!!!!

Created: 07/12/08
If you loved "The Godfather" trilogy, then do yourself a favor and buy this incredible DVD box-set. For sheer volume of quality entertainment, it's in a class of its own. That is, if you can still get it! This baby is no longer in the making!!!

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture All three films look better on DVD than previous tape or TV outings. The first movie does contain some grainier moments, but the difficult-to-transfer scenes look impeccable (the opening shot of Brando, when he is almost merging into complete shadow, is flawless).

Sound One of the pleasures of this box-set is that all three films get equal attention. All come with Dolby 5.1 mixes that, while subtle in effects, do wonders for Nino Rota's memorable musical scores. As "Part III" was recorded in stereo, it has a more dynamic feel to it than the monaural "Part I" and "II", but real care has been taken to make the three tracks as enveloping as possible.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The box-set comprises five discs: four for the films (as "Part II" spans two DVDs), and a disc of extra features. Each of the movies comes with a commentary by Francis Ford Coppola.

An offer you can't refuse

Created: 08/04/06
This is an offer you can't refuse. The greatest film saga ever is here in DVD colecction. I rate "The Godfather" 10 out of 10-great cast, great screenplay-killer one-liners (and long liners), Coppola's directing shines as does Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Richard Castellano, Diane Keaton, and many more in the classic epic. I rate the sequel "The Godfather: Part Two" 9/10. It was pretty good, but the first one is still the best. Good directing, it really does lead up a lot to the first movie. Al Pacino leads the cast which includes Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Lee Strasberg, Michael V. Gazzo, John Cazale, Talia Shire, and in his Oscar* winning performance as Vito Corleone-Robert De Niro. Great screenplay with many more classic lines, sucj as "ROCCO, ALIVE!", "You broke my heart, Fredo", and "Keep you friends close, but your enemies closer". Then there was "The Godfather: Part Three"-all I can say is the more sequels, the worse the films get. I rate Part 3 7/10, it just didn't have the mix of the first 2, due to the fact that (for various reasons) many characters from the first two weren't in it. Directing-pretty good-acting-good-screenplay-ok. Stars Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Talia Shore, Andy Garcia, Eli Wallach, and Joe Mantegna. In all, this is a great film series-Part One earned 11 Oscar nominations-including 3 Best Supporting Actor nominations, and it won 3, including Best Actor-Marlon Brando. Part Two earned 11 as well, winning 6, including Best Supporting Actor-Robert De Niro. Part Three was nominated for 7 Oscars. Excellent trilogy, worth buying-9/10 overall-sorry, i don't use a scale of 1 to 5. I prefer 1 to 10.

Before Soparnos..there was the Godfather!

Created: 02/07/10
This is the greatest trilogy of movies of all time. The first two won Academy Awards ( a first!) and the third , although underappreciated by some, was a great tandem with Al P and a ferocious Andy Garcia!

The first was such a ground-breaker and everyone was perfect ( Marlon B, Jimmy Caan, Al Pacino, Richard Catellano and Abe Vigoda). I always wondered why do we feel sorry for a man whose sent many men to their deaths? Leave it to Marlon Brando to make us cry about his boy Sonny. This was an old school gangster pic with the all-time great scene of Jack Warner's Kharthoum's head in the bed. WOW!

In the second film, the key points were the battles of the new families and even more telling, the relationship between Michael and poor lost Fredo. The scenes in Cuba were extremely well played out. The other interesting battle was between Michael and the Nevada senator. Well played til the end.

In three, we see the old Godfather Michael and his new style. Andy Garcia as Sonny's bastardo almost stole the show. But Joe Montagna was also great, as was the supporting class. Sophia Coppola, now an esteemed award winning director was crucified for her acting as Michael's daughter but I found her character believable and found her death and Michael's reaction touching. The other great scene was the interaction between Michael and the newly-elected Pope.

A must have for a DVD collection. I have bought and sold two sets, but I couldn't resist for $15 to own again. ( I have just been powering through the Sopanos series on my DVR.

I never need the "extra" discs but this is still a great deal.

An Offer You Can't Refuse

Created: 04/06/06
Prior to the purchase of this collection , I had viewed Part 1 at least 30 times, part II almost that many and part III only once. When my VHS tape of part I finally "wore out", I decided to take the plunge, which brought the "extras" disc, as well as Part III, which I didn't own at the time, For a lover of the trilogy, the "extras" disc is a must. Behind the scenes background, interviews, cut scenes, actor and crew commentary bring new incite into the productions. The three films themselves include a second English dialog option with Copoolla waxing his feelings and insights. I have also come to respect part III at this time, which I had previous dismissed due to Sophia Coppola's acting and the far-fetched Atlantic City rub-out scene. It gets into Michael's head and soul, and once it is viewed enough to follow the story clearly (it took me two more viewings) a lot of the story line starts to make more sense.
Of course, having DVD's makes it easier to skip to scenes which you wish to review. This is one package with the added bonuses make it worth the price alone, which on eBay, wasn't all that much at all.

The Godfather Trilogy

Created: 06/01/09
The original movie, The Godfather, is a classic to me. It's a little more violent than I like to see, but based on the history of the Mafia in the US, it's realatively true to life. The Godfather Part II, is even better, I think. It tells about how this particular crime family came to be, and I found it very interesting-and it's my favorite of the three. The Godfather Part III was a flop in the Box Office. It's not that it's a bad movie, per se, it's a little bit harder to follow. However, if you're going to have the first two films in the series, you have to have the third! I chose to buy this because I received it as a gift when the Trilogy first came out on dvd and my son really liked it. This set, that I bought on ebay, was a gift for him. He wanted this so badly that he didn't even mind that he received a USED set!
