HTC Magic - Black (Unlocked) Smartphone

Prior to owning the HTC Magic I had several PDAs.. most of them the Palm Treo series (which were great) and a Moto Q.

I love the sleek design and weight of the Magic as tThe Palm Treo phones are heavier. Like the iPhone, the Magic has a touch/slide screen and tons of free and inexpensive downloads to customize your phone to your liking.

If you have the Magic w/ Google phone, you will love the built in Google apps it has. It comes with Gmail syncing, Google maps and other software you can download. I am an avid Gmail and Google Voice user so the Magic w/ Google is perfect for me.

Really, there is only thing I dont like about the phone, its the headphone jack. It doesnt come with a standard headphone jack. Instead, the charger input and headphone jack are the same, which limits you to special HTC headphones.

I love almost all of the features of this phone. Screen display is excellent, Very lightweight, excellent black finish. Battery life is a little bit of a downer. But tweeking some of the phone settings will increase the battery life during use. Rooting this phone allows your to reap so many additional benefits. The differences between the HTC Magic and the HTC Dream is mostly the slide out keyboard that the Dream has. We’ve already played with this phone for quite a bit and noticed that its pretty much the exact same as the Dream. Both battery life seems to last only 5-7 hours depending on how much you use and what you keep running in the background (charging daily is a must for this device) and the interface seems to be the same as it lags a bit when applications are running.

The Rogers HTC Magic comes in a glossy black slim form with a leather case included vs the Rogers HTC Dream which is available in either Matte White or Matte Black. The HTC Magic has a slide-up virtual keyboard, exactly the same as the iPhone. Still no 3.5mm earphone jack for the music player but the package includes a USB earphones which may fit most people, but it didn’t for me.

I now have purchased four of these phones. The 3G web frequently runs at 3 Mbps. With my big thumbs, I can navigate pretty well on the horizontal screen keyboard. The phone is lightweight and the battery lasts a long time. This is now my mp3 player using a 16GB MicroSD card. This is the first phone that I could successfully access the net. I was chosen as a beta tester for Rhapsody on Android Devices. What a dream. The camera lens cover is recessed so it is somewhat difficult to contaminate the cover with fingerprints.
