For the price point the Kodak Easyshare Z1015 IS is an excellent buy for your above average point & shoot Photographer. This camera is capable of taking very good pictures & has lots of features found on more expensive cameras. At first glance the cameras controls look intimidating, but are very user friendly & easily accessible when using them. The electronic viewfinder and extra large LCD screen are a plus. As with most LCD screens it can wash out in bright sunlight , but switching to the electronic viewfinder is a breeze & extends the battery life considerably. When switching between camera modes the screen will display a brief description as to what that feature does (another user friendly feature). The automatic settings are pretty accurate in all modes making picture taking easier for the non-professional. The zoom (15x) is smooth as well as the focus. The only drawbacks are the battery life & getting used to the burst modes. Using the LCD screen primarily will eat up the batteries Switching to the viewfinder will get you a much longer runtime so my advice is buy extra batteries with an external
charger. The burst modes work great contrary to other reports on the net, It takes some practice to fine tune and works great once you get the hang of it. All in All I give this camera 5 stars for what it is, a High end point & shoot camera for less money than a Digital SLR. If you want faster burst modes & the ability to add lenses/filters by a DSLR . This is not a camera for professionals, its for the amateur who wants more than the average point & shoot cameras offer. I bought this camera to take action pictures of my daughters club volleyball & it fits the bill perfectly. I only wish the camera came with an external battery charger instead of relying on the camera to be plugged in to charge them.

I had to edit review after trying out camera for a while. It takes great pics but as a lot of people complain it is a slow processor and although I only had a 4 gb not an 8 gb, It really wasnt the processing but the size and weight of camera were really not worth it when I could carry around my z915, minus an optical viewfinder, and come out with much better pics at the full optical zoom even though the z915 is a 10x and the z1015is is a 15x optical. I also tried out against my z710 7mp and was really suprised to see the otical max 10x zoom on the z710 was even larger than the 15x on the z1015is. Its a good camera but for the price on ebay you can get a much smaller pocket camera that will give you the same quality pics. I suggest the z915 which although is too big to be a pocket camera, is not to cumbersome to lug around with you and will fit easily in a jacket pocket.

good enough for seconds

Created: 15/11/10
I take a huge amount of photos. Lots of family shots that get framed and put into photo books etc. This camera was as good as expected. I really have enjoyed several versions of the easy share family and was impressed with the useability and the digital zoom capability for the reasonable cost. Of course there are better and typically much more expensive cameras to use, but if I am traveling or out on a beach or vacation outing and don't know where it may take me, I would rather have a camera of $150 to $200 than a much more expensive one. It personally causes me less anxiety. Recently someone stole my camera out of my car. I considered it a great loss and was very happy to be able to replace it with the same one some months later.

It is quick, small enough, automatic enough and versatile enough for my likings and a great shot ready at the right time.

I only wish that the capture time was a bit faster. But that does come at a greater cost. en

Kodak Z1015 IS: overall good choice

Created: 18/01/10
This is a newer model of a camera I had previously had and loved. It is a good camera, but I prefer the previous model. The features are much the same between both, as are the buttons. Although the newer model is supposed to have the same number of pixels, the screen resolution doesn't seem to be quite as good. The quality of the pictures doesn't seem quite as high, either. All in all, though, I would still recommend this model.

Not as Great as I had Hoped

Created: 11/11/09
I bought this camera because the flash on my Z612 was acting up and I was heading out on an extended pverseas vacation and wanted something reliable. In addition, this seemed to be the "next gen" of the Z612 (which I love). I found the Z1015 to be too big, too clunky and too slow.

Too Slow: The pictures look OK, but it was really a pain to use, and after the ease and speed of the Z612, I was really disappointed. It takes a long time to actually take a picture, meaning that I lost a lot of great shots. Also, with daily vacation photo taking, I had to recharge the battery every second day - the Z612 lasts me at least a week and a half (with vacation use) before recharging.

Too Clunky: The setting dial would shift occasionally (usually after I stuffed it in a jacket pocket while hiking). This was bothersome. Also, the lens cap is really irritating. Whereas the Z612 cap just slips on and off and you can always tell which way it goes by feel (which is great), the one on the Z1015 is hard to use, and invariably I would get it in my hand backwards and not be able to get it on the lens without considerable fussing.

Too Big: It was enough bigger than the Z612 that it was very difficult to carry easily in a jacket pocket. It was also very difficult to get a small camera bag to fit this camera. I purchased one that Kodak said fit it, and it did not - I ended up with a much larger bag (too large), which took up way more space than anticipated in my luggage.

The Z1015 definitely was not what I was hoping for - in fact, had I been able to find an electronics store on my trip, I would have bought a different camera in the middle of the trip.
